Easter Adventure Holidays
Grab yourself an 'Eggcellent' Adventure

Easter's just 8 weeks away, but it's not too late to sign up for an adventure. Nepal is perfect at this time of year and we have lots of guaranteed holidays - some easy, like the brand new Royal Trek and Chitwan, tougher treks such as the Ultimate Everest Trek or even classic trekking peak climbs, like Mera Peak.

Closer to home, there are opportunities to find adventure and some early season sun, in Morocco - try Winter Toubkal, or the Jebel Sahro Trek. Or, in Jordan, choose the Dana to Petra Trek or the Dead 2 Red mountain biking holiday. For something completely different, why not consider our Addis to Axum touring holiday in Ethiopia, Samarkand and the Silk Road in Uzbekistan, or Kerala and the Western Ghats at the tropical southern tip of India.

Hazel and the Huskies in Finland

Life in the Freezer

Last weekend, Hazel from the KE Flights Department was lucky enough to travel out to Finland, where despite the freezing temperatures she experienced at first-hand some of the country's excellent winter adventure opportunities.  Hazel travelled to Hossa, close to the border with Russia and, after being kitted out with suitably warm clothing, was able to enjoy the beautiful snow-encrusted landscapes and starlit night skies, made extra special by the shimmering Northern Lights. Snowshoe walks through the forest, a husky sled ride and the obligatory sauna provided the other highlights of her visit. If you would like a winter adventure in Finland check out our Arctic Wilderness Week and Bear Trail Snowshoe holidays or view all our Winter Activity holidays.

Camp or Lodge - the choice is yours

Mount Everest continues to exert a magnetic attraction for the world's adventure travellers. Traditionally, the approach to the mountain along the 'Everest Trail' involved a full camping set up, with Sherpa support and the freedom to pitch your tent in the most scenic locations.  On our Classic Everest Basecamp Trek you can do just this, whilst getting a flavour of what it must have been like for Edmund Hillary and other early pioneers. As visitor numbers to the Khumbu have grown over the last 25 years, the number of lodges catering for them has also grown and their standard has steadily improved. Trekking to Everest whilst staying in lodges is increasingly popular and you can do this with KE too - see our Everest Basecamp Lodge Trek. Whichever way you choose to go, it's important to note that ALL of our Nepalese holidays are FULLY INCLUSIVE.

Will you do a runner?

An ABTA survey last month suggested that 12% of people in the UK will take a holiday abroad during the period 27 July to 12 August so giving the Olympic Games a miss. If you're not interested in watching others' sporting endeavours and would rather have an adventure of your own, then we have lots of holidays for you to consider.

Judgement Days!

A book by Tom Richardson

KE Leader of the Year 2011, well-respected mountaineer and all-round nice guy, Tom Richardson's new book, Judgement Days, is his story of climbing in the Himalaya and Karakoram over more than 30 years. He reflects on decisions he has made in the mountains and to tries to draw some conclusions about them and their sometimes life and death outcomes. He attempts to explore where the narrow line between adventure and misadventure lies and what place luck has in events. In the foreword, Andy Cave calls it "a wonderful memoir, packed with wry observation and sharp wit" and wonders how one man can do so much in just one lifetime.

juniperMaking a Difference
Juniper Trust - Making a Difference

The Juniper Trust

KE's long association with the Juniper Trust continues to make a positive contribution in many of the undeveloped areas that we visit. Current Projects include ongoing support for the Adarsha Bal Vikas Kendra School and the Chobar School for Orphaned Children - both of these are in Kathmandu. Meanwhile, Gitare Primary School in the town of Chogoria beneath Mount Kenya is benefiting from funds raised by successive KE-organised groups from Alderley Edge School. And, in northern Pakistan, where our old friend Ayub Khan is coordinating the building of Asumbar Village School, the trust is also supporting an ongoing programme of Baltistan Teacher Training.

If you want to make a contribution to a particular project, you can do it here.
