How To Save Your Year
While many businesses seem really struck by the “economic downturn” not everyone is failing. As a matter of fact, I deal with all kinds of businesses that are having their best year ever and are outpacing most of the competitors in their industries. It seems to me that the only thing worse than not hitting your numbers for the year is being the only person in your group that didn’t. So, don’t give up yet, and don’t buy into the whole economy thing. Instead, try the following:
Remove emotion from your perception of time—Believe it or not, this year will be over in exactly 122 days. Yes, it still feels like summer, but Halloween supplies are already in the stores and time is flying by. Don’t be lulled into thinking you have plenty of time before year’s end when the reality is that from a business perspective, there is a finite period of time left to make things happen.
Make ONE major change for the sake of productivity—Hire an assistant, a nanny or a professional organizer. Or install that software you’ve been wanting. But be sure to make one, big dramatic change in the interest of your productivity and do it now.
Scrutinize how you spend your time—Remember, life is short—way too short to be wasting time doing something just because you have always done it. Now is a great time to really look at what you do and when and why you do it. If your newfound productivity requires you to skip visiting your in-laws this winter, you can always resume the habit next year—it’s only 122 days away!
Plan to succeed—With such a finite period of time on your hands, planning is an excellent time-investment to make. Pause and make a solid plan for your success. Get very specific about goals, outcomes and to-dos and push yourself to complete them. Put the plan in writing and print it out so that you can see it, refer to it and track your progress.
