Greetings ,
Roger's Update
This past month Roger has been on the campaign trail, running his businesses, court reporting, taking care of his family and out of town on business -- twice.
He will be writing an extensive article for next month's issue including an update on the happenings at the National Court Reporter Association Convention.
Don't forget that it's time to vote. Washington's primary election ballots are due by August 16th (mail-in ballots must be postmarked by the 16th). If you happen to live in Federal Way, VOTE FOR ROGER!

The Video Vault
By Chris Lewis, FLVS
Legal Video Specialist
Welcome back to The Video Vault
When we left off last month we just introduced the oversized video cameras known as RCA-VHS and the Betamax and separate audio recording unit.
In 1983 Sony released the first consumer camcorder-the Betamovie BMC-100P. It used a Betamax cassette and you could not hold it with just one hand, so typically it was rested on your shoulder. In the same year JVC released the first camcorder based on VHS-c use. IT too was very large, but the audio was built into the video unit itself.
In 1985 Sony came up with its first compact video cassette format. They called it Video-8. Both VHS-C and Video-8 had their benefits and problems, and neither of them would stick around long.
In 1985, Pansonic, RCA and Hitachi all began producing camcorders that recorded to full-sized VHS cassette and they all offered up to 3 hours of recording time. These shoulder holder camcorders found a niche with videofiles, industrial videographers, and college TV studios. Super VHS (S-VHS) full-sized camcorders were released in 1987 which exceeded the broadcast quality of the day and provided a less expensive way to collect news segments or video shots. Sony matched this with the release of Hi-8, this was an upgraded version of Video-8.
In 1986 Sony introduced the first digital video format. Video was recorded in uncompressed form and required enormous bandwidth for its time.
That pretty much gets us through the 80's and next month we will jump into the 90's and see how the digital age truly effected the video camera world.
Thanks for reading and I'll see you next time,
~Chris Lewis

Internship By Irina Korosteleva
Washington Bar Association Trade Show
Traveling to Ocean Shores for the Washington Bar Association Solo and Small Firms Conference was an exciting experience. Everything from the beautiful Ocean Shores Convention Center, the 190 attendees, the various companies that exhibited their services and products, and not to mention the remarkable catering services, contributed to making this an unforgettable and fun event. In the midst of being an exhibitor and informing others of Flygare and Associates, Inc., I also enjoyed talking to various attorneys and learning the different sides to practicing law.
When working in creative fields that require inspiration for new ideas, it is vital to find events that provide "fuel" to continue the process creation. I found this conference to do just that for the sphere that I am interning in. Marketing and PR require innovation, and after being part of this conference I was infused with ideas about marketing strategies and was ready to tackle projects with a new sense of inspiration.
Aside from gaining knowledge and inspiration, I also took pleasure in attending events hosted at the end the conference. After three days of working the exhibitor's booth, it was a great to join everyone for music, drinks, and appetizers. The relaxed setting made for a wonderful evening and finalized a successful and unforgettable event.

Helping Our Community
This month I am taking a break from the "normal" transcription article and asking you to help with our community effort. Between now and the end of August, Flygare & Associates has joined up with several local businesses to gather school supplies to help children be prepared for the upcoming school year.
No child should have to attend school unprepared. We are accepting all types of supplies, pencils, pens, crayons, colored pencils and pens, notebooks/binders, backpacks, notebook paper, glue sticks, highlighters, just to name a few.
Please help us to help our community and make every child's school experience a good one. Donations can be given to our court reporters at depositions, dropped of at the office or you can drop them off at the following locations:
Federal Way Red Canoe Credit Union
St. Francis Hospital
Federal Way Chamber Of Commerce
Federal Way Public School District Offices
Federal Way Mirror
Sylvan Learning Center
If you can't make it to one of the Federal Way locations, please donate supplies to a local school in your area. Let's all help the kids have a great school year. Please call our office at 253-661-2711 if you have any questions.
