Greetings ,
Quick Tip
Every now and then I have been known to sometimes forget when my car tabs need to be renewed. As a solution to those moments of forgetfulness, you can sign up to have an email sent to you when your license needs to be renewed.
Click on the following hyperlink and have them send you an email notice to get your tabs renewed and then print the renewal notice. Recently, I decided to sign up and got a cool and very timely confirmation email from dol.gov.wa,
https://fortress.wa.gov/dol/dolprod/dolCollectCustomerInfo/default.aspx
This is for WASHINGTON state only. You will need to provide the last 4 digits of your VIN and your license plates.
Safe Summer Driving
To You All,

Flygare Food Drive Update
This is the third month of the Flygare & Associates food and clothing drive. We want to thank the folks who have provided items. Chris Lewis is heading up the food drive team, Anna Hirsh, Roger Flygare and the entire staff are doing a wonderful job gathering and providing support for this project, but we need your assistance. Now that warmer weather is here and kids are getting out of school, often food banks shelves run low. You can help by bringing any non-perishable food or clothing items to your deposition setting and our court reporters or staff will pick it up and turn it into the Flygare offices for you. Or swing by our main office located at 1715 south 324th place, suite 250 in Federal Way to drop off your donation, say hi, and have a cup of coffee.
Thanks again from all of us here at Flygare & Associates, we appreciate your continued support.
Please call or send an e-mail to RGflygare@flygare.com, if you would like more information on this or any of our previous stories |

Transcription Corner By Anna Hirsch
Senior Transcriptionist

ARE YOU PREPARED?
As we all know in the past couple of months there have been several major disasters around the world, the most notable are the multiple earthquakes and tsunami that hit Japan. Experts keep saying it's not a matter of IF a major earthquake will hit the Pacific Northwest but WHEN.
In light of the disasters in Japan and other area, my husband and I have decided to get proactive in creating a disaster preparedness kit for ourselves. I have done extensive research in this area and most experts say you should have enough supplies on hand to be on your own for 3 days should a disaster hit. We are aiming towards 7-10 days ourselves just in case we get the really "big one."
Keep in mind that your emergency supplies should include items you do not have to refrigerate or freeze. Also keep in mind should the power go out a camp stove will be a lifesaver for having a hot meal.
Some supplies to keep in your emergency kit includes:
1 gallon of water per person/per day, Granola bars, canned fruits, canned vegetables, canned chili/soups, a variety of crackers, melba toast, dried meats, canned nuts, freeze dried food items, camp stove & cooking fuel, waterproof matches, manual can opener, paper plates & plastic utensils, flashlights, batteries, battery operated radio, toiletry/personal care items, extra clothes, sleeping bag/extra blankets, emergency cash (small bills) and change.
This is only a partial list of what you need. To help yourself and your family prepare there are some great resource websites available.

Food for Thought Recipe of the Month
Barbecued Pineapple Wedges w/Rum Butter Sauce
This is one of my favorite all time summer barbecue recipes. You can serve it as a side dish with the meal or as a light and refreshing dessert.
1 Medium Pineapple
2 Tbsp. Dark Brown Sugar
1 Tsp. Ground Ginger (I like using freshly grated ginger)
4 Tbsp. Melted Butter
2 Tbsp. Dark Rum

Tech Talk By Jona Christoe
Marketing and Technology
Should Technology Takeover Court Reporting?
In this day and age, with technology taking over many of the tasks in our lives, should we rely on recordings to cover court proceedings?
While recording and talk-to-text technology has come a long way, it is still filled with technical issues and glitches. It's impossible for a recording to stop because it didn't "hear" exactly what you said. When people don't enunciate or speak clearly, or when more than one person is speaking at a time, when there is other noise in the courtroom or when people speak too softly the recording equipment can't ask for clarification... A court reporter can, and does.
Might technology take over the courtroom of the future? I never say never, but not today. At least not until technology can think, speak and protect the record as well as a trained professional live court reporter.
Have a great June, and I'll talk with you again next month,
~Jona

MAUI By Colleen Donovan
Transcriptionist and Court Reporter-in-training
My presence was required this past week in Maui for a wedding. Never having been to Hawaii at all, I really was not excited about the prospect. I thought, "I've seen the ocean and I've seen Hawaii Five-O and Dog the Bounty Hunter." I resolved to keep an open mind and absorb the natural essence of Maui.
When we left Seattle the temperature was only 48 degrees, but I left my jacket at home having been told that I wouldn't need it in Maui. I settled in for the six-hour flight with my recently acquired Kindle, and it occupied me the entire flight. Landing at the Kahului Airport on the east side of the island, the terrain looked fairly flat with a few hills in the distance. It was on the drive to the west side of the island that bits of the place started to sink in: the comfortably warm breeze, white and beige sand beaches, palm trees planted randomly by nature (unlike the palm trees planted by man strictly in rows in Phoenix and Las Vegas). The trees swayed gracefully in the wind. There was beautiful vegetation I have never seen before. The people were relaxed and contented, some sitting under the trees on the beaches just watching life. They were 33 rpm people in a 45 rpm world. Looking out across the ocean one could see five other Hawaiian islands in the distance with an occasional dolphin or several leaping out of the water. I suddenly felt as if I were seeing life scientifically; the building blocks, electromagnetism, quarks and such, and I realized ... I had set out to absorb the natural essence of Maui, but the essence of Maui had absorbed me.
