Greetings ,
Our web site is now bursting with some great click spots for lawyer tools and our new link for Expedia Travel. Be sure to check them out. We have plugged in a new blog for visitors and a private court reporter forum so our reporters can share valuable court reporter information that is important to your litigation, special and unique words and proper names and so forth.
Periodically, Captain Carib Raj and his friendly parrot Crackers will hide a "treasure chest" somewhere on the web site. The first person to find it is the winner of the "buried treasure," our winner the last time at sea wasTerri Murphy, so search around and find it this month and be the lucky winner ~ AARRGGHH, me mateys!!
I am traveling to Chicago the first week of August 2010 to attend the National Court Reporters Association Annual Convention and Educational Seminars. As in past years, I might discover litigation tools that I feel might be advantageous to our clients and bring those ideas back and share them with you. Now it's even easier to share with you because of this newsletter.
So more probable than not (isn't that a legal standard) next month's article will undoubtedly be about my trip to the NCRA Chicago Convention. I am pretty sure I will have lots to share with you.
Break out the suntan lotion, summer has stuck its head out in Washington!
Thanks for reading and wishing you a great day always,

Roger G. Flygare CEO & President

Transcription Corner
By Anna Hirsch Senior Transcriptionist
Audio recordings from courthouses often leave me with no "frikking clue" as to who is speaking. That's especially troublesome when there are multiple male or female voices, which have a strong tendency to sound very similar. If they don't identify themselves from time to time, what Jane said is very likely going to be attributed to Janice and what Bruce said will look as though it was stated so very dramatically by Ted. That very problem may cause problems or possibly a delay in an appeal in trying to sort out who said what, not to mention all of the inaudibles, undecipherables, untranslatables, and so on. As I've always tried to share with counsel, when you're in an audio recorded courtroom, speak up and state your name particularly if opposing counsel and you are both women or men. Thanks for reading

Video Vault
By Chris Lewis, FLVS
Legal Video Specialist

This issue's topic is about effective trial preparation by using video recordings. Many law firms utilize mock trial runs for outcome results in important litigation where there are huge risks of not only money but perhaps significant jail time. By videotaping your trial tactics, you can assemble a number of enactments of possible scenarios with mock juries or even a knowledgeable lawyer standing in for judge in a bench trial to decide how you may want to proceed with your trial. You can review the video any number of times to hone your tactics or the style of presentation. Not only can you put together the different tactics for your side but also the counter point of your opposition by utilizing competent lawyers to stake out the other side's response to your presentation of evidence and witness testimony as well. You can also discover the strengths and weakness of a jury trial versus a bench trial or even a potential witness. In discussing this strategy with lawyers over many years, both they and I have a feeling that if this creative and novel approach had been employed that it very possibly could have changed the outcome at trial to one more positive for their client. As Flygare & Associates' in-house videographer, I will continue to write about the many special uses of video in today legal environment, so stay tuned...and now that the sun is finally here have a great summer! Don't forget to visit our updated and very useful web site www.flygare.com for all your legal services and now one-click travel links. And as Allan Funt would say, "Smile, you're on Candid Camera!!"
