Coach's Corner by Aleks Mihailovic

 How to Teach

On many levels in our game, development is based on wins and losses, and not governed by a long term development plan.

Everybody wants to be a coach and not a teacher of the game. When I conduct our USSF Adult Coaching Licensing Clinic, one of my first priorities for every candidate is to stress the value of teaching through progression.

The first quality of a good coach is knowing how to teach. To learn how, Read More.

The One Resolution That Matters

The start of a new year is always exhilarating. Our thoughts are filled with tons of New Year's resolutions, which help us set the mood for the upcoming year. Yet some resolutions can turn out overwhelming with disappointing results.

This year, propose a New Year Resolution - the one that matters: From helping your club fundraising to supporting your soccer association. How? You can be more involved by contacting your administrator and/or the USASA National Office. Inquire about happenings and how you can participate. For instance, your team might make it to the National Cup Finals and could even be a 2009 Champion! Cling to the USASA resolution and you'll see how rewarding it is!

If you haven't participated in any of the USASA national tournaments, you better find those storing-dust cleats in the basement or attic of your dwell (depending on your location) and commence the fun.

As the year progresses, we will bring you more details on national, regional and state events. For now, take a look at what we have planned out for you.

Indy United Elected Recharge Team of the Month!

Indy UnitedOur deepest congratulations go to Indy United of the Indiana State Soccer Association for winning the December Recharge Team of the Month Award!

The core of Indy United has been together for 30 years. Current members of this team serve as President and Vice President of Central Indiana Women's Soccer League. They have been instrumental in sustaining the league and promoting its growth for over more than a decade.

This year will be the 5th annual Kick for the Cure indoor tournament organized by members of Indy United. Kick for the Cure is a fundraiser where 100% of all fees go to fund breast cancer research.

One current member of the team is a survivor who works relentlessly on the tournament. She has worked to incorporate the association as a non-profit organization and plays a huge part in the success of the tournament weekend. Every member of the team has contributed in a substantial way to support the tournament and encourage participation so that they can increase their donations for cancer research. It has truly been a team effort. Read More.
