USASA's Coed Cup Set for October 2008 |
By Jim Sadowski; Jeanne Smith, Coed Cup Committee
After a two year break, the USASA Coed Cup is returning to Dallas, Texas, and will be played at Russell Creek Sports Complex on October 24-26, 2008. Scheduling the event in October will allow the teams to play in the more forgiving fall weather - avoiding the hot summer months.
New to the 2008 event will be the introduction of an Over 40 competition to supplement the already popular Open (no age restriction) and Over 30 competitions. The 2008 national championship will also feature, for the first time, the inclusion of three divisions within each competition to reflect the diverse competitive range of the nation's coed teams. Teams may now select one of three divisions: the Premier Division (most competitive), the First Division (competitive), and the Second Division (less competitive). The winners and runners-up in each division will receive a trophy and medals. With the help of USASA staff, the Coed Committee has developed a comprehensive website listing details about the event. The Coed Cup website will also feature a "Team of the Week" page that will profile the participating teams. Read More.

| Pat Sweeney, an inspiration to USASA and many others |
|
When Patrick Sweeney started playing soccer, he knew that the game was going to be the passion of his life.
"I love soccer so much because you can always learn something new; you never get tired of it. I was 5 years-old when I was first introduced to soccer and I have enjoyed it since" said Sweeney.
Patrick, 23, is not the average young man that plays soccer. He was diagnosed at the age of 18 with Rasmussen Syndrome, a rare immune disorder that has no cure and that causes myoclonic (muscular) seizures. Read More. |
