Greetings!
I have decided to change the tone and direction of this newsletter to make it more interesting and to provide you with more engaging topics and information. I am doing this because I have not been a good "keeper in toucher" - meaning, I have not maintained a good line of communication with you - my friends.
In the past, I focused on getting you to purchase our gourmet specialty coffee - in other words - it has been all about me. Recently I discovered, much to my dismay, that the Universe does not revolve around me (I never was very good in science). I discovered the Universe is filled with stars - and you are the stars. So I will be providing information I hope you will find interesting.
Speaking of stars, I will tell you about stars that have entered my Universe. These are people I encounter who are doing interesting and exciting things in their lives and our community. You will find these people in the section titled, Friends of Poverello.
I will share new discoveries in and out of the world of coffee - music, books, films, technology. And if you want to share similar things with us for future newsletters just send me an email and I will let everyone know. You will find this discussed in the section aptly titled, Awesome Discoveries.
Coffee-tales will be replaced with quotes and notes of a positive nature. While Coffee-tales has been fun, I believe we can use a bit more uplifting ideas so we can move forward in this the early part of the 21st Century. You will find these golden nuggets in the section titled, Notes and Quotes.
Finally, to satisfy the marketing mavens, I will tell you about our coffees of the month, specials, and coupons. You will find this in the section titled - Poverello Coffee - Monthly Specials.
Please let me know what you think about these changes and to offer suggestions.
So take a moment to smell the coffee and happy reading.

Friends of Poverello - Mark Chapman
Photographer, world traveler, Huntington Beach (HB) Scavenger Hunt Chairman, Co-Master of Ceremonies for the Miss HB Scholarship Pageant, snowboarder, backpacker, and all around good guy. How can he not be a Friend of Poverello?
I met Mark a little over a year ago at the HB Chamber and joined a Business Network International (BNI) Chapter only to discover he was also a member. Since then, I have been amazed at his ability to develop a presence in the community for his family's company Caught in the Moment Photography.
Mark was born in a '64 Chevy Nova one chilly April night on the way to
the hospital in Buffalo, NY (I guess there was no room at the Inn). This may have been what sparked his
interest in travel, because before he turned 25 he had visited over 20
countries in all parts of the world. A love of people and their
different cultures is what initially drew Mark to the art of
photography. Landscape photography is a natural for Mark, but what he
enjoys most is capturing a person in a defining moment in their lives.
Last year Mark spent time in Haiti with Child Hope International working at an orphanage. He gives countless hours to the HB Chamber taking photographs of new business openings and other events. He is heading the Chamber's Centennial Scavenger Hunt which will drive business to more than 60 businesses throughout the city. On Feb. 8th he will make his debut as Co-Master of Ceremonies for the Miss HB Scholarship Pageant. What you ask could make Mark any cooler? He drinks Poverello Coffee (I know a shameless plug isn't it). His favorite - Blueberry Crumble.

Awesome Discoveries - UNTIED by J.Kelley
At least one or two days a week we have theme music days at Poverello Coffee. This is when we turn on Rhapsody and create playlists for the day. Occasionally we pop in a CD. This is always dangerous, because if we like it then we listen to it for the next several days and we forget all about theme music day. Well this happened with UNTIED by J. Kelley.
In terms of full disclosure, I should tell you I know J. Kelley, aka Jason; and my brother George produced the CD along with J. Kelley and plays lead guitar. Now that this is out of the way, I can say the music is a mix of genres from rock to pop. The lyrics are strong and heartfelt with an underlying sense of honest emotion.
The CD is available on iTunes. To hear tracks from the CD go to www.myspace.com/jkelleymusic.

Punxsutawney Phil saw his shadow on Monday which means we have six more weeks of winter to look forward to. As an avid devotee of groundhog prognosticators, I cannot help but believe this is true. So in the spirit of the moment (and numerous customer requests), I have decided to continue offering our Jamaican Me Crazy coffee for the next six weeks.
Can it really get any better than this? Actually it can. Check out the coupon below to receive FREE SHIPPING off every order you place in February (pretty sneaky, considering there are only 28 days in the month). Be sure to enter the coupon code below each time you place an order this month.
Finally, if you are wondering what to get that special someone for Valentine's Day, nothing says I love you better than a bag of our specially roasted gourmet coffee. Each time your loved one opens it, the smell of fresh roasted coffee will fill the air and they will think warm thoughts of you. Oohhh - the shivers this sends. So be sure you order early. Like right now. So don't delay. Click here now. |

I hope you have enjoyed this edition of our newsletter and will consider sharing it with a friend or two. Better yet - why not share some Poverello Coffee with them?
Take care, Mark Piva Poverello Coffee |
