"Are You Open 24/7?"
Well, are you? Open to receiving that is? Or are you the type of person who sometimes cautiously allows yourself to receive, wondering what the giver's motives really are behind their "supposed" generosity. Why certainly, there must be a catch! They're going to want something from me in return...HA! I'll show them! I'm not going to take their "supposed" gift! Or maybe you've been putting out a prayer for more financial abundance. Then while walking down the street with a friend, you see a quarter on the ground. Surely though, bending down to pick up the quarter is beneath you and as such, you leave the quarter on the ground. If it were a $20.00 bill though, then would you exert some energy to bend down and pick that up? Yet why is it that you're always seeing quarters and there doesn't seem to be any $20.00 bills to pick up?
The topic of Asking & Receiving is something I've become passionate about. Just a few short years ago, I was always the giver. Give, give, give. I was the martyr, who had it all under control and didn't need anyone to help me. Now mind you, I was also the one crying out to God every night, "Why is it all up to me?! I feel like I always have to do it all! It's not fair!" I look back and laugh at all that now. Sure I had to do it all....because I was refusing any/all offers of help being extended to me. I didn't have to do it all by myself...I was CHOOSING to do it all by myself. There's a big difference. That belief began to shift dramatically when I decided to move from New Jersey to Colorado. I had to move by a certain date, and I didn't know how I was going to get everything done that needed to be done before moving. I needed help with packing, I needed emotional support, I needed someone to drive with me and my dog Randy across the country with a huge moving truck. It was time for me to swallow my pride and ASK. And once I did ask, I received - abundantly! Friends and clients generously offered their time to come help me pack up box after box. Not only did they help, they helped with smiles and with gratitude. I was astonished that they were thanking ME! I remember asking, "What are you thanking me for? I'm the one who should be thanking you!" Their answer..."Thank you for letting me give to you for a change. You've always done so much for me...it's nice to be able to finally give back." Although I didn't know it at the time, it was the beginning of some huge awareness for me. Of course, once I moved to Colorado, I had to keep asking for help. From learning how to pump gas (Jersey girls don't do that back East), to asking for referrals for accountants or asking for driving directions. I remember that I once even had to ask, "What county do I live in?!" I was a newbie in Colorado and after finally settling in for a night of relaxation with Randy curled up in my lap, the TV starts beeping with a weather advisory stating, "There is a tornado watch in effect for the following counties....." I looked at Randy and he looked at me as I exclaimed, "I don't know what county we live in!" Aaahh...the shifts of change!
During a recent trip back East to teach and offer sessions for two weeks, an amazing gift for many was provided. Back in December, a friend of mine sent an e-mail to several people writing about the animal shelter where she volunteers. She was asking for any suggestions about fundraisers, etc, as the shelter was in danger of closing down. When I received the e-mail, I was travelling for Christmas and thought, "That's too bad...I'm in Colorado though and they're out in Jersey...there's nothing I can do." With that, I deleted the e-mail and forgot about it. A few days later driving in the car, my persistent angels appeared and out of no where all I heard is, "There is too something you can do! You can teach an Animal Reiki Class to benefit the shelter." My initial thought and answer back to them - "Are you kidding me? I'm leaving in less than two weeks. There's no way I can pull that off." Angels can be very persistent though (especially mine)! Despite the discomfort that was showing up for me with "How will I pull this off," I reached out to my friend and told her, "Hey look, I received your e-mail, my angels are guiding me to offer this class, and...I don't know. If I were to do it, I will need your help and the help of the shelter to make this happen." This, in turn, brought up stuff for my friend, as she never organized anything like this before. She hesitantly spoke to the shelter manager and amazingly enough, a phenomenal Animal Reiki I Class took place to benefit not only the shelter, yet who knows how many more animals because of the new Animal Reiki Practitioners the world now has. Had I not ASKED for help, I would have never received. And look at how many other people and animals, along with the shelter, wouldn't have received. By me asking and being open to receiving help (something I'm ashamed to admit I would have never done several years ago), look at all that took place! And to think that if I didn't ask for that help, look at all that would have been lost! So for those who have a belief that receiving is selfish, let this story put that belief to rest! My refusing to receive would have been selfish!
I chose to share this topic with you this month because I really want you to gauge how open you are to receiving. Do you graciously receive compliments or do you feel you have to give one back in return if you receive one? Do you pick up coins on the sidewalk or do you leave them? Do you accept offers of help from family and friends - or even strangers? Do you receive...really receive...the embrace of a loved one, or are you just going through the motions of the hug without really feeling all the warmth, love, care and tenderness that is being wrapped around you? If we're closed off to receiving these things, we're sending a message to the Universe. The Universe interprets that as, "if s/he is not willing to receive these gifts, why would s/he be open to receiving even bigger gifts?"
Recently, I was very blessed to share Angel Card Readings with many beautiful souls to usher in 2012. These readings always fascinate me, especially as I see things angelically unfold. At first, the messages don't seem to make any particular sense; yet as all the messages intertwine and come together, there's usually a recurring message or theme. That's the norm for each individual reading. What I noticed as a whole this year, however, was that there was one common message for many clients during the month of February. That was a message from an archangel I work very closely with, Archangel Sandalphon, who shared with many, "Be sure you are open to receiving." The first time this message appeared, I was excited; although Sandalphon is my "main angel," he is not an archangel who commonly appears for many. So when he does appear in someone's reading, I get excited. Yet Sandalphon kept appearing...especially in February and almost always with the same message, "Are you fully receiving? There are gifts we want to shower you with...open your arms to receive!" That being said, I really want to bring your attention to Sandalphon's message this month and always...BE OPEN TO RECEIVING! If you're not open to receiving, you not only deprive yourself of many beautiful gifts, yet you also rob the giver the chance of giving.
Where are you not receiving in life? Is love right in front of you, yet you keep turning your back on it? Maybe that person who wants to get together for dinner with you and some other friends is the "connector" who will introduce you to someone that will offer you your dream job! Can a book that "falls off the shelf" reveal the answers you've been searching for?
Gifts are all around us, always. Be open to receiving! Affirm, "I RECEIVE!" and be a gracious receiver.
