Sharing the Model

Over the weekend of June 23-24 Santa Monica participated at "Green Days in Beverly Hills -- Sustainability Conference." Scheduled in conjunction with the U.S. Conference of Mayors, the event featured nationally known speakers and some 50+ exhibitors. The Solar Santa Monica booth was particularly popular given its touch-and-feel solar trailer (shown above being set up by EcoMotion's Russell Flanigan) and thanks also to its location next to the electric cars!

Solar Buses?

It's tough to follow a story like the March announcement of the City's Solar Parking Structure, with its 181 kW of capacity. But the City of Santa Monica continues to come up with solar enhancements.

Two new projects for you to watch for:

1. New solar-powered bus shelters.

The City is planning to equip 10 of its bus shelters with solar panels that will power LED lighting. (LED = Light emitting diode). LED lighting is the next level up from fluorescent in efficiency and durability, lasting up to 10 times longer.

2. Solar array at the Big Blue Bus station.

As part of its commitment to a healthier environment, the bus station will soon feature a solar array on its front facade. The fleet already operates substantially on Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG), which is 77% cleaner burning than diesel-fueled buses. And Big Blue recently introduced mini-buses -- smaller and more eco- friendly -- with the slogan Ride Blue/Go Green.

    The New Business Roof Look

Solar Santa Monica has negotiated a fixed price for solar for businesses that is at least 20% off the market price.

If you are serious about solar for your business, contact Solar Santa Monica today and before rebates from the State go down. We've instituted a new, 3-step streamlined process for businesses to get things moving quickly.

    1. Assemble 12 months' worth of electricity bills.
    2. Call Virginia Nicols at (949) 450-7153 to get an appointment for an on-site analysis.
    3. At that time, we'll look at your roof and give you an immediate, ballpark estimate.
If it makes sense, we'll then connect you with SunTechnics, our Preferred Provider, for an official engineering assessment and financial proposal. You'll be getting the best solar deal in town!

    Take that first step today.

  • Frey on roof

The Solar Santa Monica team has now visited 87 homes as part of its residential assessment process. The no- cost assessment takes about an hour, involves a discussion of appliances and lighting for efficiency, and includes a look at the roof for solar feasibility. (Harvey Frey in photo, on his roof during the assessment.)

For the assessment to be meaningful, the assessor needs to see 12 months' worth of electrical bills!
