Several therapies are used in our office to aid in
reducing pain, reducing inflammation, reduce muscle
spasm and increase range of motion.
Therapies can be used for a variety of complaints from muscle spasm, joint pain, inflammation, headaches, TMJ pain, tendinitis, carpal tunnel syndrome, arthritis, sciatica, plantar fascitis just to name a few. LIGHT THERAPY (New to our Office!)
Low-level laser light is compressed light of a wavelength from the cold, red part of the spectrum of electromagnetic radiation. It is different from natural light in that it is one precise color. These properties allow laser light to penetrate the surface of the skin with no heating effect, no damage to the skin and no known side effects. Rather, laser light directs light energy to the body's cells which the cells then convert into chemical energy to promote natural healing and pain relief. INTERFERRENTIAL THERAPY (IFC, Electric Stim) IFC is a special form of electric current that is administered at the site of soft tissue injury (especially muscles) to aid in reducing pain, inflammation, and muscle spasm. You experience a slight tingling sensation, almost like the feeling when your hand falls asleep. IFC is often coupled with heat or ice therapy. ULTRASOUND Ultrasound is a therapeutic treatment using high- frequency sound waves administered to soft tissues. It works by producing sound vibrations as fast as a million times per second that penetrate the tissues deep in the body creating a heat response. Ultrasound increases blood flow, relaxes muscle spasms, and speeds the healing process. HEAT THERAPY Moist hot packs are applied to the skin to relax soft tissues (muscles, ligaments, and tendons). This aids in increasing flexibility and range of motion. You want to use heat in chronic injuries and pain, not acute (new) injuries. CRYOTHERAPY (Ice) Cryotherapy is a term that describes the application of ice or using ice massage to reduce the temperature of soft tissues. It constricts blood vessels, numbs painful areas, and helps relax muscle spasms. During initial stages of injury (acute phase) you want to use ice on the area several times a day - up to 20 minutes every hour. ACUPUNCTURE Traditional Chinese acupuncturists believe that life energy called "Qi" (pronounced chi) flows through the body via a series of energy channels, or pathways, called meridians. Treatment involves stimulating the body's own natural healing energies by influencing the Qi using needles at specific points along these meridians. The theory is that this stimulation of the body releases energy blockages which exist when a person has chronic pain or any other type of physical or emotional problem. Acupuncture helps to balance Qi. KINESIOTAPING The Kinesiotaping Method involves taping over and around muscles in order to assist and give support or to prevent over-contraction. The first technique gives the practitioner the opportunity to actually give support while maintaining full range of motion, enabling the individual to participate in physical activity with functional assistance. The second technique helps prevent overuse or over-contraction and helps provide facilitation of lymph flow 24 hours per day. It is most commonly used in the acute stage of rehabilitation. GRASTON TECHNIQUE The Graston Technique is an innovative, patented form of instrument-assisted soft tissue mobilization that enables clinicians to effectively break down scar tissue and fascial restrictions. The non-invasive technique utilizes specially designed stainless steel instruments to specifically detect and effectively treat areas exhibiting soft tissue fibrosis or chronic inflammation. |

Looking to curb appetite cravings and to promote
a
feeling of satiety?
Well search no further. Metagenics has just released "Slentiva" the all natural appetite modulator. How does this appetite modulator work? Slentiva is made of Proteinase Inhibitors 2 (PI2), once consumed and reaches the small intestine, triggers the release of CCK (Cholecystokinin,) which travels to the brain triggering a sensation of feeling full longer (satiety). Slentiva comes in chocolate flavored chews that taste like tootsie rolls. Who would be a good candidate for Slentiva?
· Body mass index (BMI) of 25+ · Patients interested in gaining control of diet and/or appetite · To improve compliance on current therapeutic lifestyle programs · Patients needing to reduce snacking and/or overeating Slentiva is available at Sauganash Wellness Center. |
