The Truth About Milk
More than any other food, milk is controversial.
We guzzle it by the gallon, spending almost £3 billion
a year on dairy products, and many people believe
it's vital in pregnancy, for growing children and for
keeping your bones healthy in later life. Yet, two
thirds of the world's population, including some of the
healthiest nations, don't eat dairy products.
So, what's the truth about milk? Thanks to Dr Justine
Butler, whose comprehensive scientific report on the
health consequences of consuming milk has just been
published, you can find out for yourself. Dr Butler's
extensive report goes through a long list of
health concerns, from acne to osteoporosis, and
suggests that there is a clear evidence that
consumption of dairy products is linked to increased
risk of cancer - especially breast, prostate and
colorectal cancers - cardiovascular disease and
numerous digestive disorders from Crohn's to
constipation and colic in babies...
It makes for very interesting reading - but beware, it
might put you off your pint....

Vital Health Statistics
"On the whole, we have increasingly poor
nutrition
and diet and are more unhealthy than ever," says
David Heber, Ph.D, Chairman of UCLA and Herbalife's
Nutrition Advisory Board.
"This combines with other modern lifestyle factors
such as stress and pollution could increase the risks
of variety of illnesses and obesity."
- The World Health Organisation (WHO) has
classified obesity as a chronic disease, set to
overtake some of the more common causes of ill
health such as under nutrition and infectious
diseases
- According to the National Audit Office Report on
Tackling Obesity in England, the four most common
health problems related to obesity are: High blood
pressure, Coronary Heart Disease, Type 2 Diabetes,
Certain Cancers
- According to Cancer Research UK, experts think
that dietary factors are estimated to account for
30%
of all cancers and that about quarter of all cancer
deaths are caused by unhealthy diets and increasing
obesity
- A 2004 UK Diabetes report found that the risk of
developing Type 2 Diabetes increases by up to 10
times in people with high body fat percentage and
BMI above 30

Anytime, Anywhere Perfectly Balanced Meal
Formula 1 Nutritional Shake Mix - Herbalife's Intelligent Nutrition
There are some foods you should never be
without!
The body needs balanced nutrition to perform
optimally. If you want to safely and comfortably
control or maintain your weight, Formula 1, a meal
replacement product, specially formulated, is a
unique
blend of ingredients that provide easily absorbed,
high-quality soy proteins, carbohydrates, vitamins,
minerals and dietary fibres.
To give you an idea just how nutritious it is, one
shake provides the following approximate nutrient
levels:
Vitamin A = (equivalent to) 120g cheddar
cheese
(47% EU RDA)
vitamin C = 100g boiled cabbage (29% EU
RDA)
Vitamin D = 50g tinned tuna (50% EU RDA)
Vitamin E = 50g dry roasted cashew nuts
(51% EU
RDA)
Vitamin B6 = 100g cooked lentils (33% EU
RDA)
Vitamin B12 = two raw eggs (154% EU RDA)
Calcium = 80g tofu (52% EU RDA)
Zinc = 85g cooked crab (32% EU RDA)
Magnesium = 248ml carrot juice (18% EU
RDA)
Iron = 155g cooked beef steak (38% EU RDA)
Potassium = 100g cooked soya beans (NA)
Copper = one avocado (NA)
Selenium = 90g cooked liver (NA)
Dietary Fibre = four slices wholemeal bread
(20% EU
RDA)
Imagine the amount of calories you would be
consuming daily in order to give your body minimum
amount of every single nutrient your body needs
every single day to ensure proper metabolism,
growth, repair, detoxification and reproduction: it is
estimated that you would need to consume food that
would range between 4000-6000 calories (that would
make one seriously obese, no doubt) to achieve the
same thing. Formula 1 smoothie only contains
approximate.
217 calories.

The Human Digestive System
Our body - the perfect machine
A person will dedicate years of life to the training
necessary to become an airplane pilot, electronics
technician, architect, or some other professional; yet
many, probably most, show little regard for the ONLY
PERFECT MACHINE – THE HUMAN BODY. We may
have considered that there may be laws and rules
governing our universe and nature, but how many of
us have reasoned that there might also be specific
rules for the efficient operation of those perfect
machines – our bodies?
The human body has ten systems that work together
harmoniously for normal function. These are the
muscular, skeletal, nervous, lymphatic, excretory,
respiratory, digestive, circulatory, glandular, and
reproductive systems. Each is a separate entity, yet
each is also dependent on each of the others. The
system that we have the most control over is THE
DIGESTIVE SYSTEM, through the way we feed
ourselves; this, in turn, affects all the others.

Eat Breakfast, Eat Less Later
The importance of breakfast
The results of a recent study indicated that
omitting breakfast causes metabolic shifts in insulin
sensitivity that result in greater food consumption,
higher cholesterol concentrations, and a greater risk
for fat gain. The risk of onset of type 2 diabetes is
also raised.
Skipping breakfast may put you on the fast track to
bodyweight gain and heart disease, according this
study. Researchers found that healthy people who
skipped breakfast for two weeks ate more during the
rest of the day, developed higher "bad" LDL
cholesterol levels, and were less sensitive to insulin
than those who ate
breakfast every day. High LDL cholesterol levels and
impaired insulin sensitivity are both major risk factors
for heart disease.
Skipping breakfast has become more common in
recent years, perhaps due to efforts to drop fat or
time pressures in the am. But at the same time, the
prevalence of obesity and overweight has also
dramatically increased.
