Director's Corner: August
Wow, this summer is flying by! At least four of our staff, and countless others, are starting to pack up kids for college and begin a new season of their lives (myself included). In addition, this month is my 25th anniversary which coincides with our WFCM 25th Anniversary, and for the next few months, we will be celebrating the services the ministry has provided over those 25 years. Thank you for all who came out to film our anniversary video and for those who sent me stories and pictures of the early days. These were truly helpful and will no doubt leave a legacy. We hope that you will all join us for the 5th Annual Fellowship Dinner on Friday, October 12th, to see the premiere showing of this anniversary film. More details for the dinner can be found in this newsletter.
Two new initiatives this year include replacing our old database, and moving to a new one, which is coordinated through the Office to Prevent and End Homelessness of Fairfax County. Secondly, we will be the recipients of a Skill Source Kiosk, which will allow our clients access to resources such as job listings and helpful employment resources. The good news is that both of those are free to WFCM! On another note, our aging building on Metrotech Drive has some very old HVAC units, one of which must be replaced for safety reasons, and this will cost us over of $11,000! We appreciate your financial support and ask that you keep this particular need of ours in your prayers.
On September 29, WFCM will hold a Community Walk and Zumba Class to support the ministry. It is local, a good workout, and you can bring the kids for good food and fun at the N-Zone! Check out this newsletter for more details on that event. Registration is online and very easy.
As always, fall is sure to be the busiest time around WFCM and we hope you will drop by to see the good things happening daily. I would love to meet you personally and give you a tour.
May God bless you. Thank you for your ongoing support!
We hope you will join us on the journey for our next 25 years!
God bless you,
Melissa M. Jansen

WFCM's HTH Walks
Each year, Fannie Mae sponsors the Help the Homeless (HTH) Program to help raise awareness and funds for organizations working to prevent and end homelessness. WFCM counts on schools and businesses to partner with us to meet our financial needs through Help the Homeless Walks.
Did you know that there are 1,500 homeless people in Fairfax County? In addition to the homeless, there are 57,000 people living beneath the poverty level who struggle daily just to make ends meet so they won't lose their home and can feed their families.
Holding a Help the Homeless Walk is a good community outreach event for your school. It provides YOU several benefits including: 1) the means to support WFCM in our efforts to prevent homelessness and hunger in your community, 2) an awareness of homelessness and ways to help prevent and end it, and 3) an opportunity to feel good about yourself for helping to provide life-essential needs to some of the neediest in their community.

Praise & Thanksgiving
- We were blessed to have the awesome group volunteer support of the Vietnamese Baptist Fellowship Youth Group on July 6, and the Dumfries Youth Center Camp Group on July 12. YOU ROCK! :)
- Praise God for all our volunteers who are led to serve here in the ministry. You are a blessing to us!
- Praise God for the ongoing work of the local churches and community to fill our shelves for those in need of food. You are a blessing to us and to our neighbors in need!

- We continue to pray for all who are suffering physically, emotionally and/or financially.
- We pray for the continued health and strength of our clients, staff, Board and volunteers, as well as their walk with the Lord.
