Director's Corner: January
Happy New Year!
2012 is here whether we like it or not. As I write, it is snowing in Chantilly and blessing us with a soft blanket on the ground. We are entering our 25th year of service to the communities of Centreville, Chantilly, Fairfax, Clifton and Fairfax Station. As I enter my 4th year with WFCM, I am amazed at the growth of this organization...how it began as a need that the churches saw and flourished into a full-fledged non-profit food pantry, thrift store and office, serving more than 3,000 individuals each year! What I most love about WFCM is that the mission has not changed. We are still about providing basic services to people needing our assistance...or as Jesus said, "helping the least of these."
Whether you have been a long-time supporter, volunteer, or in-kind provider of donations, we appreciate your help. As you know, our financial donations go toward helping our clients with a variety of things - food, rent and utilities, budget classes, and household items. 92 cents of every dollar goes directly to our client assistance programs and if you have requested a donation to be applied to a specific area of the ministry, we do everything we can to honor that. However, our board of directors has the discretion to apply all contributions in a manner that will have the most significant impact in carrying out our charitable purposes. If you desire to specifically help the food pantry, for example, we ask that you please purchase food or food gift cards. A current list of food needs can always be found on our website.
Thank you for each and every gift as we seek to serve as many clients as we can and could not do it without your support. We anticipate an increase in 2012.
We hope and pray that you have a healthy, prosperous and blessed new year.
God bless you,
Melissa M. Jansen

Client Appreciation
The following is a letter of appreciation from one of our dear clients. Please note that for confidentiality purposes, the name of our client has been changed.
January 12, 2012
Dear Leah Ann:
This is a long overdue letter of appreciation for all the assistance that WFCM has provided to me over the past few months. I am not sure where I would be without the financial aid, food bank access and holiday gift cards I received from your organization.
I am happy to report that my life seems to be taking a turn for the better. Though not employed yet, I have had several interviews and feel that my job prospects are improving. I have also been able to reduce many of my expenses in order to put together a budget that matches my current income. The Internet has also been quite helpful in selling items I no longer need in order to obtain additional funds.
When my situation becomes more stable, I would like to repay WFCM by volunteering my services in any way that would be helpful. I will also be donating clothes and household items to your thrift shop as I prepare to move to less expensive housing in May.
Thank you again for your help and understanding. May God continue to bless you and all those associated with WFCM.
Sincerely,
Henry
