Greetings!

Welcome to the February 2011 edition of WFCM's E-Newsletter.  We provide this newsletter to keep you, our loyal friends and supporters, involved and aware as to what God is doing in and through WFCM, and we also use this as an opportunity to THANK YOU for your continued prayers, volunteerism and support!  God bless each and every one of you!
Director's Corner: "The New and Improved WFCM Thrift Store"

In December, volunteers, staff and board members all worked together to clean up the Thrift Store and give it a "cleaner" look. Sort of a "face lift", if you will. After clearing the drop off donations area, we tackled the volunteer work area. There is now more room to sort and price items and a  more streamlined system for testing electronics and household items. The floor of the store now has color-coordinated clothing and shoes, instead of sizes, and premiums are now separated by designer and style.

Along with the positive aesthetic changes came a slight increase in prices. Like all ministries, our costs have increased and our expenses, such as building repair (i.e., HVAC repair, door repair, etc.) have dictated the need after many years of keeping steady pricing. We think you will see that the quality has improved and we still offer those WEEKLY specials, including 20% off your total and end of the month clearance sales!  Please see our attached calendar for the month ahead so that you can take advantage of our monthly events. Come by and see us soon!

Always grateful for your support,

melissa

WFCM Client Stories

  • Jessica, a single mom of two adult children, needed assistance with her rent. She works three days per week babysitting and her children are both in college. They work part time to help support them while they are in college. WFCM partnered with Fairfax County to get her rent paid. We were able to refer her to the HPRP program for case management and search for more affordable housing options. She is working with WFCM budget counselors to help manage her financial situation.
  • John and Mary have two children under the age of six. He had lost his job but has been hired as a school bus driver. He had fallen behind on his water bill and had a disconnect notice. WFCM was able to assist financially to avoid disconnect. They are renting out space in their home to help with the mortgage payment. They will attend budget counseling at WFCM to aid in getting them back on their feet. They should be find with his employment and rental income.

WFCM Annual Golf Tournament

Praise and Thanksgiving!

  • We are thankful for all who came out in support of the "Stuff the Bus" event earlier this month, both as volunteers and donors.
  • We are thankful for the County grant that will aid in the provision of a new computer at the Centreville location as well as some IT technical support for the remainder of FY 2011.
  • We are so very thankful for all our volunteers, whether they have served for a day or a decade.
  • We are thankful for such a loving and hard-working staff and board of directors.
  • We are thankful for the continued healing of several of our volunteers, staff and their loved ones.

Prayers

  • We pray for all staff, board and volunteers' health, families and walk with God.
  • We pray for all who are suffering physically, emotionally and/or financially.  We also pray that as the days and nights grow colder, that all have shelter, are fed and are warm.
  • We pray for the Centreville office, that it may continue to grow and meet the needs of our clients in this area.
  • We pray for more volunteers; more volunteers who are able to commit to a long-term schedule.
  • We pray for unity and wisdom amongst the board of directors and staff as we continue to grow.
