Thank You!

A very special thank you to this month's Guest Editor, the one and only, Heidi Ermlick.  Heidi, as you may remember, was the WFCM Food Pantry Intern this past summer. She helped organize multiple food drives for our food pantry. She returned from her busy semester at JMU to volunteer some of her time here at WFCM, and we are appreciative of her time and bubbly Christmas cheer!

SEASON'S GREETINGS!

Welcome to the December 2010 (Christmas) edition of WFCM's E-Newsletter.  We provide this newsletter to keep you, our loyal friends and supporters, involved and aware as to what God is doing in and through WFCM, and we also use this as an opportunity to thank you for your continued prayers, volunteerism and support!

CENTREVILLE

In September 2010, WFCM opened an office in Centreville. The office is located near several schools with a growing population of financially needy families. Executive Director, Melissa Jansen, has expressed  much excitement that "we can meet the majority of our clients in a nearby office, within walking distance, and give food to children who might not otherwise have enough on the weekends. The office is in the heart of Route 29 and near many of our supporting churches." Terri Kelly, our new Community Coordinator, has been busy informing these churches about WFCM services, and making connections with school counselors about our new site.

Members of Centreville Baptist Church graciously gave time and supplies in October to build sturdy shelves in a large closet pantry, and made our first food donations. Twice the children's ministry of Korean Central Presbyterian Church brought in generous amounts of food and baby supplies. More than 90 small food boxes arrived from the Bloom/Bottom Dollar food chain, so the Centreville site is well-stocked with non-perishable emergency food for winter visits from clients. Already 18 counseling appointments have occurred with neighbors in need of food or rent or utility assistance, and a caring listener to their financial trials. Referrals can also be made to our larger Chantilly pantry, or the thrift store for assistance with clothing or household goods.

A large conference room will soon be used for evening budgeting classes, to be offered in Spanish by a volunteer. We look forward to seeing our staff and new office space busy reaching more clients with hunger and  homelessness concerns. The Centreville location is open to clients from 10:00am to 2:00pm Monday-Friday...please stop by for a visit!

2010 WFCM Holiday Basket Program

THANK YOU! THANK YOU! THANK YOU!

Every holiday season, countless schools, organizations, churches, families and individuals pledge to provide food baskets to the needy in our area. WFCM distributes baskets in coordination with area public schools. Students must receive free or reduced cost lunches to qualify. Generous donations help numerous families in western Fairfax celebrate the holidays. This 2010 season, approximately 1,600 holiday baskets were distributed.

We could not have distributed Thanksgiving and Christmas baskets without your unending support and generosity.  THANK YOU!

Praise and Thanksgiving!

  • We are thankful for such a wonderful 2010.  Though there have been challenges, God has also presented us with an endless supply of opportunities and blessings.
  • We are so very thankful for all our volunteers, whether they have served for a day or a decade.
  • We are thankful for such a loving and hard-working staff and board of directors.
  • We are very pleased for Cindy Nichols, who was promoted to Food Pantry Manager!
  • We are thankful for Linda Emerick, who has joined our staff as the part-time Food Pantry Assistant Manager.
  • We are thankful for the continued healing of several of our volunteers, staff and their loved ones.

Prayers

  • We pray for all staff, board and volunteers' health, families and walk with God.
  • We pray for all who are suffering physically, emotionally and/or financially.  We also pray that as the days and nights grow colder, that all have shelter, are fed and are warm.
  • We pray for more volunteers in 2011; more volunteers who are able to commit to a long-term schedule.
  • We pray for unity and wisdom amongst the board of directors and staff as we continue to grow.
  • We pray for Lisa Bynum, our former Food Pantry Manager, and her family as they begin their new life outside of the area.
