WFCM Client Stories
Ann is a single 38 year-old mother of three who was behind on her rent and utilities. She had lived paycheck to paycheck and was falling farther behind. With the four- month TANF-EF funding that WFCM received, we were able to get her caught up on her bills and continue to support her for 3 months. During that time she was working with a budget counselor. With the money she was able to save, she repaired her car, enrolled in a certificate program to give her the training she needed to get a better paying job. With her car repaired, she was able to save up to $40 a day that she need to pay for either the bus or a cab to her job in Reston. With her certification, she has the opportunity to work overtime which has increased her monthly income and pay off her debt.
Jane and Curtis, parents of two children, ended up in a shelter when they lost their jobs and home. They were able to find employment and rent an apartment. WFCM was able to assist with their rent while they were waiting for their first paychecks.
Carol and her disabled husband, Tom, needed assistance with their electric. Carol was laid off her job after 20 years when the company she worked for downsized. She was able to received unemployment but it wasn't enough to keep up with their expenses. After a few months, Tom 's disability was approved and Carol found work as a waitress.
