The Disability Advisory Commission's (DAC) Programs and Services Access Subcommittee is working with the Department of Human Assistance to ensure equivalent effective services to its CalWORKs clients with disabilities who wish to engage in work participation activities. The goal is to increase the number of clients with disabilities being successfully placed and accommodated in jobs or job training through CalWORKs/Welfare to Work programs. The DAC recommendations address issues such as providing effective reasonable accommodations, tying medical assessments to employability issues, training staff on the needs of clients with disabilities, providing full disclosure to clients on the long term benefits of employability, and developing measurement tools. These recommendations are consistent with the Policy Guidance on the administration of welfare-to-work programs published by the US Department of Health and Human Services.
