Approximately 400 students, parents, teachers, counselors, and school administrators in Omaha, NE attended our Student Leadership Series events on September 28. Led by USHLI Board member Bob Campos, USHLI partnered with Omaha South High School to host the event on a day that schools were closed and students had the day off. Students from nearby schools also attended. The SLS event included a college recruitment fair and focused on helping students improve their academic performance, prepare to transition successfully from middle school into high school and from high school into some kind of post-secondary education or training.
Our featured speakers were Consuelo Castillo Kickbusch from Las Vegas and The Cuban Guy from Miami. Consuelo is the matriarch of Latino motivational speakers and the most respected. The Cuban Guy is a standing ovation quality motivational speaker who thrills student audiences from coast-to-coast through every presentation with his unique style and powerful message.
USHLI would like to thank Charo Rangel, Omaha's Latino Academic Achievement Council, the Omaha Public Schools, and the bilingual liaisons for their leadership in and of this effort which will help hundreds of Latino students in Omaha to stay in school, graduate, and pursue some kind of post-secondary education or training.
