Univision President and CEO, Cesar Conde, presented El Corazón award to Dr. Juan Andrade, USHLI President. The award, presented on May 18 at the Univision corporate offices in Miami, recognizes USHLI as the 2012 National Organization of the Year, which has previously been received by only five organizations serving the Latino community.
Andrade also appeared on Al Punto with Jorge Ramos, which aired Sunday, May 20. The segment included a special clip on USHLI's work and interviews with three alumni - Eira Corral, Village Clerk in Hanover Park, IL; Janet Padilla, Coaching and Design Director at Ford Next Generation Learning an extension of the Ford Motor Company; and, Eduardo Garza, Associate Vice Chancellor of Student Affairs at the City Colleges of Chicago. Ramos reminded viewers that we are celebrating the 50th anniversary of the United Farm Workers Union co-founded by Cesar Chavez and asked Andrade the question often asked of thought leaders today regarding the absence of a voice that can unite all Latinos - someone like Cesar Chavez.

Andrade responded by saying there are many Latino leaders with powerful voices in their own right, so we don't lack for voices. And given the diversity within the Latino community, it is not likely that there will be anyone who can speak for all of us.
USHLI is very grateful to Univision for selecting USHLI as the 2012 National Organization of the Year and to Cesar Conde for presenting the award.
ˇGracias Univision!
