The USHLI Student Leadership Series was featured at two student assemblies and a special presentation in New Jersey last week. Student assemblies were held at New Brunswick High School and McGinnis Middle School. The special presentation was held in Perth Amboy High School. An estimated 1,400 students attended the events.
Our featured speaker was Mena Badros, a CoolSpeak associate from Philadelphia, PA.
In keeping with USHLI's core message, Mena urged students to stay in school, improve their academic performance, prepare to transition from one level to the next, graduate, and pursue some kind of post- secondary education or training. The events were arranged with the help of Dr. Ivonne Diaz Claisse, the President of HISPA, a New Jersey-based organization with a phenomenal record of promoting education and training young professionals to be role models in mentoring middle school students.
Dr. Diaz Claisse said, "HISPA and USHLI share common goals including bringing positive role models to our youth in school assemblies and reinforcing the importance of finishing high school and pursuing higher education."
USHLI is a Chicago-based non-profit national organization. The 2012 Student Leadership Series, launched in Chicago on February 16, has served 20,700 students in 14 states to date during this calendar year.
