Dr. Juan Andrade was invited by Dr. Robert Vinton, ESL and Migrant Education Coordinator for the Dodge City Schools, to address the annual Migrant Education Banquet, which was attended by over 350 parents, students, and children.
Also on Andrade's schedule, prior to the evening dinner, was delivering prepared remarks to business and civic leaders and educators at the Public Library, on "The Economic Impact of Latinos in the United States and in Kansas." Ms. Cathy Reeves, Dodge City Public Library Director, hosted the event and said "Dr. Andrade presented to our audience relevant information in an informative and light manner. The information presented will give us food for thought as we plan for our community to grow and work together."
He also addressed high school students at a special assembly on the importance of post-secondary education or training. Ms. Paola Alarcon, Family Liaison/Coach, said "The students were engaged in the words of Dr. Andrade. Never have the 1,700+ students paid so much attention to a speaker, much less given a standing ovation. He came to Dodge City High School and moved many students - this was apparent by their comments afterwards."
"At first, I didn't know who Dr. Andrade was or why he was here but then when he began to speak, it was obvious that he was a man with not only a lot of education, but experience in life. He is inspirational and I feel fortunate to have been able to hear his wise words." Javier Marino, 11th grade student at Dodge City High School.
"Dr. Andrade - Passionate, Profound, Inspiring!" Dr. Robert Vinton, ESL/Migrant Program Director
