Dr. Samuel Betances,
the Patriarch of Motivational Speakers,
is Still One of a Kind
|
Dr. Betances stepped up for USHLI and was the featured speaker at the second annual LNC/SALSA Hablemos (Let's Talk) Conference held at Kent State University. His powerful message on leadership and diversity challenged students to prepare to lead a nation whose complexion is changing rapidly; a nation lagging behind the rest of the world in many of the prerequisite skill sets for leadership; a nation inadequately educated to navigate through technology that is evolving faster than it's being learned. This is the time for Latinos to be at the head of the class.
How to study, get better grades and graduate was emphasized several times. He promoted reading for leading. The event was motivational, entertaining, meaningful, and emphasized the need for first generation students to excel in high school and college. "Our numbers must equal power and for that power to be a positive force in our diverse society, Latinos have to say no to high tech distraction and yes to studying", said Dr. Betances.
The event was organized and conducted by the Latino Networking Caucus (LNC) and the Spanish and Latino Student Association (SALSA), under the leadership of Dave Garcia, Vice President for Enrollment Management and Chair of the Latino Networking Caucus.
The Student Leadership Series is designed for students in grades 6-12, college students, parents, and educators.
