In her announcement, Ms. Estrada said that USHLI was selected because of the impact of its work on Latino youth in promoting education, leadership development, and civic participation. To date USHLI has had over 300,000 participants in its education and leadership programs, awarded $1.2 million in scholarships and internships, and registered 2.2 million new voters. In 2012 USHLI expects to have an estimated 50,000 participants in its Student Leadership Series events for middle school, junior high, high school, and college students.

The Corazon Award will be presented by Cesar Conde, President of Univision Networks at Univision Communications Inc., to Dr. Juan Andrade, USHLI President, in Miami. A special segment on USHLI's work will be featured on Al Punto, hosted by Jorge Ramos.
"We are very proud and humbled by this tremendous honor and grateful to Univision for selecting USHLI. For 30 years USHLI has been very quietly effective, focusing completely on the task at hand without hoopla or fanfare, and we are thrilled that USHLI's work continues to be validated at the highest levels of government, academia, national organizations, and media."
