Juan Andrade:

"Don't make me say no to 200 Latino students."

Over 200 Latino students who applied for the Dr. Juan Andrade Scholarship for Young Hispanic Leaders are fixing to get a letter from me saying "We regret to inform you that we are unable to award you a scholarship due to lack of funds.  This of course is no reflection on your need.  To the contrary, you deserve our scholarship and more........."

Friends, young Latinos are not dropping out of college because they can't perform at that level; they're dropping out because they can't afford to continue.  First they start working part time and try to continue going to school full time.  Then they start working full time and going to school part time.  Then they quit, believing that they will come back and finish some day, but some day never comes.  That's one of the main reasons why only 12% of Latinos have a college education.

Please help us help as many students as possible to keep going.  Our scholarship is for $1,000 and all we have is $8,000.

Our scholarship will be awarded at our Educational Achievement Luncheon during our 30th National Conference in Chicago on Friday, February 17.  We will be celebrating our 30th National Conference and it would make sense that we award a minimum of 30 scholarships, if not more.

Please don't make us let these students down.  They have worked hard to get as far as they have come.  Let's help them go the rest of the way by sending your charitable tax deductible contribution as soon as possible.  Your contribution is tax-deductible to the extent allowed by law.  Please contact me at [email protected] or call me at (312) 427-8683 if you can help.  Thank you in advance.
