USHLI celebrated its 29th national conference with over 6,000 present and future leaders representing 40 states, making it the largest Latino leadership conference in the nation.  With over 60% of participants being 18-34 years of age and female, and over 80% attending or having already completed college, the USHLI is cultivating the next generation of Latino leaders en masse.   Over 10% have earned advanced degrees and over 25% earn over $50,000 per year.  The 2012 national conference will be held February 16-19 in Chicago

USHLI awarded scholarships to 20 recipients of the Dr. Juan Andrade Scholarship for Young Hispanic Leaders, bringing the total amount awarded in scholarships and internships to almost $1.2 million.  Verizon sponsored 15 scholarships awarded during our national conference.

USHLI's Student Leadership Series attracted over 10,000 high school and college students to events held in 10 states from Oregon to New York, Atlanta to Arizona, and Texas to Illinois.  USHLI is expecting 40,000 students in 30 states to participate in 2012.

USHLI sponsored Parent Leadership Training Programs in the Bronx, New York and San Bernardino, CA with support received from Chivas Regal.  A similar training program for parents in Houston is planned for early 2012.

USHLI provided Financial Literacy Training to an estimated 5,000 students using its REC2 brochure (Reputation, Education, Character, and Community).

USHLI continued to receive considerable recognition in 2011 with prestigious awards presented to USHLI President Dr. Juan Andrade, including the OHTLI award from the government of Mexico and the Medallion for Leadership from the Hispanic Heritage Foundation.  In 2012 Dr. Andrade will receive an award from the American Association of Hispanics in Higher Education for the impact of his work on higher education.  

 

 

USHLI Logo and HeaderUSHLI's MillerCoors Scholars internship program continues to impact civic participation by registering newly naturalized citizens to vote.  Approximately 120,000 new voters have been registered in the Chicago area through the program, mostly new American citizens.

USHLI Logo and HeaderUSHLI continues to organize and conduct Collegiate Leadership Development Programs like this one at University of Nebraska in Kearney, NE.  To date over 2,000 college students have been trained on how to formulate, implement, and influence public policy.
