Latino Students Meet

with Chicago State University President

In partnership with USHLI, Latino students at Chicago State University (CSU) have organized and started a 7-week Collegiate Leadership Development Program (CLDP).  Over the course of seven weekly sessions, students will meet with university faculty, staff, and administrators to review and discuss university policies in terms of how they are formulated, implemented, and influenced.

The first session was held with CSU President, Dr.

Wayne Watson, who addressed the students and answered questions regarding the university's administrative policies. Pictured below are the CSU students participating in the CLDP with President Watson.

There is no charge for students to participate in a USHLI-sponsored CLDP.  Our standard procedure is to send a USHLI Coordinator to meet with students who may be interested in organizing a CLDP at their college or university.  Group advisors are welcome.  USHLI will also attend a meeting with university officials to help explain the CLDP.

Northeast SpeakersDuring the first two sessions students and university officials focus on administrative issues, e.g., the outreach, recruitment, and retention of Latino faculty, staff and administrators; the outreach, recruitment, and retention of Latino students; financial aid, tuition, etc.  The 3rd and 4th sessions focus on university operations, e.g., degree programs, courses offered or not offered, student representation on university committees, etc.  The 5th and 6th sessions focus on student services, e.g., funding for student organizations, etc.  The 7th session focuses on financial literacy training.
