USHLI Chair Rey B. Gonzalez Listed Among 100 Most Influential Hispanics

The October/November issue of Hispanic Business magazine will include its list of "The 100 Most Influential Hispanics in America" and the list includes Rey B. Gonzalez, co-founder of the United States Hispanic Leadership Institute (USHLI) and Board Chairman.

"Rey truly deserves to be included in this prestigious list" said Dr. Juan Andrade, USHLI president.  "He has a long history of working in and serving the community and making Corporate America more responsive to the needs of community based organizations serving the Hispanic community", Andrade said.

In his early years Rey Gonzalez worked in the steel mills of Chicago.  His community service work started at the Urban League of Chicago and continued at the National Council of La Raza, where he served as Director of NCLR's Chicago office when Raul Yzaguirre was President and CEO.

For 30 years Rey has been a member of the Board of Directors of El Valor, one of the leading organizations in the nation serving children and young adults with severe learning disabilities.  He has served as Chairman of El Valor's Board of Directors for 28 years.  During his years as Chairman El Valor has entered in partnerships with several universities, which has enabled hundreds of Hispanic professionals to earn master and doctoral degrees.  Also during his tenure El Valor has raised over $30 million to build three learning centers, the first of which was named the Rey B. Gonzalez Children and Family Center.

Rey co-founded USHLI, along with the legendary labor leader Hank Lacayo and the late Willie Velasquez.  He has served on the Board of Directors since 1982 and as Chairman of the Board since 1987.  In his capacity as USHLI Board Chairman, Rey is also an alternate member of the Board HACR, the Hispanic Association on Corporate Responsibility, a coalition of the 16 most prominent national Hispanic organizations of which USHLI is a member.

Rey left NCLR and began his career in Corporate America, accepting a position as Vice President of Diversity at McDonald's.  He left McDonald's to accept a position with ComEd, where he is currently Vice President for State Government Relations.  Rey can be reached at
