USHLI Announces Conference Speakers Sepulveda and Morones |
USHLI announces two more featured speakers scheduled to address our 28th national conference. Addressing our Latino Leaders Rally on Wednesday, February 17, will be Mr. Juan Sepulveda. Mr. Enrique Morones will address our National Hispanic Hero Awards Dinner on Friday, February 19.
 Mr. Juan Sepulveda , originally from Kansas and a USHLI friend for over 20 years, was appointed by the President to head the White House Initiative on Educational Excellence for Hispanic Americans. Sepulveda's experience over the last 20 years includes work as a senior executive, strategist, and advocate in the non-profit and philanthropic communities with a focus in community development, capacity building, and transformational management. A protégé and biographer of the legendary and late Willie Velasquez, Sepulveda earned a B.A. in government from Harvard University, a B.A. in politics, philosophy and economics as a Rhodes Scholar at Oxford University, and a law degree from Stanford University.
 Mr. Enrique Morones has a long list of firsts and accomplishments. He founded and leads Border Angels, an all volunteer human rights group he established in 1986 which places water in the desert and blankets and food in the winter on the border areas to help save migrant lives. Mr. Morones has served as an advisor to Mexican President Vicente Fox and now President Calderon. He established Marcha Migrantes and founded Gente Unida to expose and denounce racism, hate crimes and hate groups. Mr. Morones received Mexico's highest award, the OTHLI, presented by the Mexican government on September 15th, 2009 on the eve of Mexican Independence Day. In December of 2009, Mexico's Human Rights Commission presented him with its highest award, Mexico's National Human Rights Award, and was the first recipient outside of Mexico to receive the award.
