USHLI Set to Launch "Cuenta Conmigo Campaign" |
USHLI, in partnership with the U.S. Council on Latino Affairs and SALSA, is set to launch its "Cuenta Conmigo Campaign." The goal of the campaign will be to organize and conduct a door-to-door canvass of 100,000 Latino households in targeted states during March, April, and May to disseminate bilingual information, answer frequently asked questions, and encourage families to respond to the Census. USHLI will launch the most pro-active face-to-face campaign in the nation at a Census 2010 Rally and Training that will be held during its 28th national conference on February 18 at the Sheraton Chicago Hotel & Towers.
The U.S. Council on Latino Affairs consists of state commissions that have been created by legislative mandate to provide advice and counsel to the Governor, legislators, and state agencies on the needs of the Hispanic community and advisory councils created by Executive Order. Approximately 15 states will be involved. SALSA is the Strategic Alliance for Latino Student Action, which is comprised of Latino organizations on college campuses in key states. The Council and SALSA, with USHLI leadership, coordination and support, will recruit, organize and train staff of community based organizations and other volunteers to implement the campaign strategy in their respective states.
