New Census Website! |
The U.S. Bureau of the Census recently announced its new Web site for national partners. The site contains several features that will enable us to better educate others on the importance of the 2010 Census. Among the features are:
- "The Marquee" - hear real people from all walks of life and from communities across America raise questions about the Census and get the real answers
- "The Whole Story" - learn the truth behind Census myths
- "Top Questions" - easily find answers to even more questions
- "How it Works" - explains the Census and walks you through the 10 questions on the form that you will receive next spring
- "Dates to Remember" - just click and get information on key census dates
- "Multimedia Center" - uses videos, photos and audio to share peoples' stories about how the Census is easy, safe, and important
To access the new Web site, visit www.2010census.gov. Please forward this information to colleagues on your list serv as well as family, friends and neighbors. The Census is now in your hands.

USHLI and Hispanic-Business Media have partnered to make available to our readers an expanded version of its October issue, the annual issue that features HB's list of "The 100 Most Influential Hispanics in America". This special issue offers expanded content about their accomplishments and access to the most current as well as back issues.

Coming This Friday: Career Day at Purdue University Calumet in Hammond, IN |
USHLI is again partnering with Purdue University Calumet in sponsoring a Career Day for Hispanic students in Northwest Indiana. The event will be held on the Purdue University Calumet campus on November 6 beginning at 9:00am and concluding at 1:30pm.
The featured speakers will be Roy Juarez and Dr. Rosita Lopez. Admission is free and a complimentary lunch will be provided. Students, teachers and/or counselors needing more information are encouraged to contact Isabel Reyes at (312) 427-8683 or ireyes@ushli.org. | |
Coming this Weekend: Southeast Student Leadership Conference in Orlando, FL |
The last of USHLI's five 2009 regional student leadership conferences will be held November 6-7, 2009, at Disney's Coronado Springs Resort in Orlando, FL. Among the nationally prominent speakers addressing the Southeast Student Leadership Conference will be Pegine Echevarria, MSW and Andres Lara, a.k.a., "The Cuban Guy". Students from Georgia, South Carolina, Alabama, and Florida are expected to attend.
The conference will open with team building exercises starting at 6:00 pm on Friday. On Saturday, starting at 9:00 am, students will hear nationally prominent speakers, attend workshops on advanced leadership skills development training, receive information on graduate school and gain exposure to career opportunities, and learn how to get involved in the 2010 Census. College scholarships will be awarded through a grant from Verizon. The conference will conclude at 5:00 pm.

Coming Soon: College Recruitment Fair in Cleveland, Ohio |
USHLI is partnering with the Hispanic Roundtable in sponsoring a
College Recruitment Fair in Cleveland,
OH. The event will be held at
the Tri-C Metro Campus Auditorium on Thursday, November 12, beginning
at 8:30 am and concluding at 1:30 pm.
The featured speaker will be Carlos Ojeda Jr., regarded among the top young motivational speakers in the nation. Admission is free and a complimentary lunch will be provided.
