3rd Annual
Career Day/College Recruitment Fair
|
The 3rd annual USHLI-sponsored Career Day/College Recruitment Fair was held April 11 in Brownwood, Texas. Over 650 students, teachers, counselors, administrators, and college recruiters attended, representing 35 Central Texas area high schools and colleges. While the 650 attendees included Hispanics and non-Hispanics, this was arguably the largest single gathering of Hispanics in the history of Brownwood. Moreover, this turnout was larger than the total turnout in the two previous years combined, and represented a 160% increase over last year's attendance.
Approximately 12 newspaper stories ran in local newspapers before and after the event, five in Brownwood alone. Please click below to read four selected articles. Also, please click below to link to a 25-picture rotating photo gallery, which includes some great shots of the audience taken by Gene Deason of the Brownwood Bulletin.
The phenomenal audience was a perfect fit for our keynote speaker, the inimitable Carlos Ojeda, Jr. Arguably already one of the best speakers in the United States, Carlos delivered a powerful message of hope and inspiration to the hundreds of students who came to hear him and to learn more about post-secondary opportunities. Students received over $6,000 in scholarships.
The 3rd Annual Career Day/College Recruitment Fair was sponsored by Southwest Airlines. Texas Bank was a contributor.
