FIUTS lost a wonderful member of our
community when longtime host Sue Berglund
passed away on
February 4th. Sue and her husband Bruce have
been hosting FIUTS students since 1978, and
she touched so many lives with her warmth
and generosity. She will be dearly missed
by all of us in the FIUTS community.
To celebrate Sue's spirit, her family and
friends will hold a memorial celebration
next weekend at the Berglund's home in Burien.
When: Sunday, March 15, 2pm - 5pm Where: 15643 Maplewild SW, Burien A brief memorial ceremony, filled with music and Sue's spirit, will be at 2:30pm and 3:30pm If you would like to attend, please RSVP to jj@jenniferjames.com or 206-243-5242 and bring a memory of Sue for the family album. |

It may seem early to be thinking about fall,
but international students around the globe
will start to receive their letters of
admission to the UW in the next few weeks!
FIUTS plans to welcome about 1000 new
students in September and will be placing
many in week-long homestays with Seattle-area
residents.
Have you enjoyed your FIUTS hosting
experiences? Do you
have friends who you think would love to
host? We are planning several
homestay
outreach and recruitment events this spring,
including
house parties and
tabling at community fairs. Stay tuned!

hosting experience with others? Email

Real estate agents Kim V. Colaprete
and Chavi
M. Hohm became new
FIUTS hosts this fall, when they welcomed
Matthieu Vahanian, a graduate student from
France.
Thus started three months of adventures that
led to a deep friendship, cultural exchange,
and now, plans to visit Matthieu in France
this summer!
Because of their wonderful experience, Kim
and Chavi have selected FIUTS as their newest
Community
Partnership recipient.
How does the Community Partnership work? Anytime
someone affiliated with FIUTS, or a friend or
relative of that person, buys or sells a
house with Team
Diva, Coldwell Banker
Bain will donate 10% of the commission back
to the organization.
For example, if a FIUTS host or alum
lists their $350,000 home with Team Diva,
when the home sells and closes,
FIUTS receives a check for $1,050. A donation
of that amount would
fund three Wednesday Lunches, ten homestay
placements, or five education outreach
visits. This wonderful partnership provides a
great opportunity for considerable FIUTS
program support!
Coldwell Banker Bain Associates (CBBA)
established the Community Partnership Program
as a way for the company and its agents to
give back to non-profit organizations serving
our communities and the arts. Since its
conception, CBBA agents have donated over
$1,000,000 to non-profit organizations in and
around Seattle and the Puget Sound
region.

If you are a regular listener of the
international music show Wo' Pop on KEXP, you
may have heard DJ Darek Mazzone mention FIUTS
during this week's fund drive! FIUTS staff and
volunteers had a great time supporting the local
station, and hearing Darek promote FIUTS and
our benefit concert on the air! Listen to a
recording of
the show
at KEXP.org.
FIUTS and FIUTS Student Board President Lissy
Rabusseau were featured last week in an
article in
the UW Daily about international students
finding
their "niche" at the UW. Thanks to Daily
writer Jason
Gordon for his great coverage of FIUTS and our
students!
