Greetings!
Era Pic 08

It's been an eventful month at FIUTS, with plenty of opportunities for students and community members to share experiences and learn from each other.

Volunteering together is a powerful way to make friends and support our community at the same time. On Martin Luther King Jr. Day of Caring, a team of students, FIUTS staff, and members of the Board of Trustees painted, did yard maintenence, and helped with other tasks at Phinney Community Center. Click here to see photos from the day.

On Inauguration Day, hundreds of students and UW staff joined FIUTS and UW Housing and Food Services for a special viewing of the historic inauguration of President Barak Obama. It was an inspiring and thought-provoking day.

At this month's FIUTS Potluck, more than 50 students and community members shared dinner and conversation. Thank you to everyone who attended and brought delicious food!

Read on to hear more about the past month and to learn about upcoming opportunities!

Over the past week, FIUTS students have had the unique opportunity to visit Seattle-area businesses and meet local professionals for Take the World to Work Week.

More than 50 students toured the Future of Flight and Boeing Tour, and small groups participated in tours of the KEXP radio station and the Coca Cola Bottling Facility.

In addition, 23 students were matched with local professionals for a day of job shadowing at the office, informational interviews and tours. The visits offered unique opportunities for UW internationals to gain valuable insight into their intended careers in the US, and for local professionals to connect with and learn from our foreign visitors.

alumnimap
FIUTS has thousands of alumni all over the country and all over the world. To keep our global group better connected to each other and to FIUTS, we are launching an Alumni Captains program.

Alumni Captains are the main point of contact for FIUTS alumni living in their nearby area, whether it's in San Francisco or Singapore. They continue to create community around those who shared peanut butter and jelly sandwiches at Wednesday Lunch and are committed to contributing to a more peaceful world, beyond their time at the UW and Seattle.

Alumni captains agree to list their contact information and photo on the FIUTS website, plan or host one alumni event each year, and meet with visiting alumni, students or staff who are in their area.

Would you like to be an Alumni Captain? Contact Homestay & Community Relations Coordinator Alicia van der Veen.

For the third year running, the University of Washington produced more alumni volunteers - 104 - than any other college in the nation.

At the intersection of the University of Washington and the community, FIUTS inspires lifelong engagement in experiences that build global understanding.
