In just one month, FIUTS will kick off a series of events
to celebrate our amazing history and look towards the
future of our programs. If you haven't already made
your plans to attend the 60th, please send in your
reservation today.
Whether you will fly in for the event or live down the
street, there's plenty to do throughout the celebration.
Here's a look at what we have
planned:
|
||||
The 60th Anniversary events will kick off at
CulturalFest and Wednesday Lunch - complete with
the traditional spread of PB & J (and pickles and
cheese!) CulturalFest is produced by the FIUTS
Student Board, and is a showcase of the diversity
of cultures represented by international students at
the UW. Wednesday Lunch/CulturalFest will run from
11:00 AM to 2:00 PM in the
HUB Ballroom, so stop by for a sandwich and travel
the world!
CulturalFest and Wednesday Lunch are free and open
to everyone, so please join us and bring your family! If
you know a teacher who might like to bring their class
to CulturalFest, contact Andy Davey.
On Wednesday evening, attend the 60th Anniversary
Opening Reception at MOHAI. This lively cocktail
reception will be a wonderful opportunity to reunite
with friends and celebrate the FIUTS
community and the economic and social vitality
international students bring to our campus and region.
|
||
Thursday will be an open day to visit the campus and
the FIUTS office, enjoy the anniversary lounge in the
HUB, and attend small reunion events.
At 5 pm, join current FIUTS students for a Pub Quiz -
an evening of international trivia at the Irish Emigrant
Pub. Join a team and test your knowledge of trivia and
current events!
|
||
Friday offers more small group reunion events and
some time to do some local sighseeing or spend
time sharing memories in the FIUTS office.
On Friday evening, the students take the stage at the
CulturalFest Performance Night. Student groups and
individual performers selected by a jury will present
short dances, songs, and other traditional and
modern performances. The performances will take
place at the Ethnic Cultural Center Theatre.
|
||
Start the day right with tickets to the Husky Game and
a pre-game BBQ! More information about this event
will be sent out soon. Contact FIUTS for
information about purchasing tickets to the game.
The 60th Anniversary Celebration will culminate in a
Gala and SIlent Auction Event on Saturday night at
Ocean City Restaurant in Seattle's International
District. Bid on local adventures and items collected
from across the globe, enjoy a wonderful Chinese
dinner, and celebrate this year's FIUTS awards
Recipients. Enjoy musical performances and a
keynote address by Raj Manhas, FIUTS Alumnus and
former Superintendant of Seattle Public Schools.
Celebrate the last 60 years, and help to launch FIUTS
towards another generation of peace and cross-
cultural understanding.

FIUTS and China Earthquake Aid (CEA) were featured
in this week's University Week, the online weekly
newspaper sent to staff and faculty on the UW
campus. The article focuses on an emerging project
between FIUTS, CEA, and Teachers Without Borders.

Do you have a favorite FIUTS photo? FIUTS has
thousands of photos in our collection, but we
would love to include your favorites in one
of our anniversary slide shows or albums!
If you have a photo - or a bunch - send them
to us! We'll incorporate them into photo
albums and presentations that will be a big
part of the celebration. You can send digital
files via email to Era or
mail copies of your
photos to: FIUTS, Box 352233, University of
Washington, Seattle, WA 98195.
