It's just a short time until you will be on the beautiful University of Washington campus and we hope your preparations are coming along smoothly. In this email we will provide details regarding Seattle transportation and options for your journey between Sea-Tac airport and your destination.

You should have received your first orientation email last week. Didn't receive it, or need to look it over again? (Click here to read previous e-mails.) .

Sea-Tac
How will you travel to your accomodations once you've arrived in Seattle? In the paragraphs below we offer some transportation options. For additional information regarding these transportation suggestions please click on the quick links located on the left hand side of this email.

Grayline Airport Express: This shuttle runs from the airport to several downtown hotels like the Sheraton. Then you can take a public bus or taxi to the University District (U District). These shuttles leave the airport every 30 minutes from 5:30 AM to 11:00 PM, and the trip to downtown costs about $11 per person. The Gray Line of Seattle desk is located at the south end of the Seattle-Tacoma International Airport main terminal.

Shuttle Express: Less expensive than a taxi, is located on the third (3rd) floor of the parking garage at the airport. The cost from the airport to the UW is $39 for one person, $47 - for two people, $55 - for three, $71 - for four. Discounts available for 2 people or more to the same destination.

Taxis: Taxis are available 24 hours a day. In a taxi, the average fare to the University from the airport is about $45. All taxis have meters that they must turn on. It is customary to give the driver a gratuity (tip) of 15% in addition to the fare.
Metro is Seattle's public transportation system. The Seattle bus system is quite good and as a student, you will probably use Metro frequently, but it is not the best choice for airport transportation. Although it is an inexpensive option, it is a long trip between the airport and the UW (over one hour), and it can be very difficult if you have a lot of luggage!

If you choose to take the bus to the University of Washington campus from the airport, you will take Bus 174 or 194 to Downtown Seattle, (the bus will drop you off on 4th Avenue) then take the 70, 71, 72, or 73 along 3rd Avenue headed north to the U District.

Cost is $1.50 to $2.25 depending upon the time of day. You need the exact fare required; bus drivers do not give change. When boarding, ask the driver for a two-zone transfer, so you will not have to pay again on the next bus.

Most bus drivers in Seattle are very helpful, so feel free to ask them for directions. In Seattle, as in any metropolitan area, use caution when traveling with large bags or at night.

I hope this information addresses your transportation needs. Again, feel free to contact me if you have further questions.

Sincerely,
