Greetings!
Era Pic

After the frantic rush of fall orientation, December brings relative calm to the FIUTS office. It's a rare opportunity to catch up, take stock, and work on all those projects we have been meaning to get to! And with so many exciting projects in the works, it's hard to decide where to start!

Planning for the 60th anniversary event is in full swing, with alumni around the world signing up to join the organizing committee and helping as we plan events for next November both in Seattle and abroad. Click here to read updates on FIUTS' Anniversary planning.

Winter quarter is filled with events and activities for current students. Along with "traditional" FIUTS outings to sporting and cultural events and weekend trips to Portland and Vancouver, we've added several new adventures - a chocolate factory tour, volunteering at PAWS, and more. Click here to read the FIUTS activity calendar.

FIUTS education outreach programming is also preparing for a busy winter. Once again, we'll match current UW international students with children from White Center Heights Elementary for a six-week Pen Pal cycle. At the end of six weeks of emails to their pen pals, the children join FIUTS for a Wednesday Lunch to meet their pen pal. Click here to read more about FIUTS Education Outreach.

These are only a few of the exciting programs coming up at FIUTS - read on to learn more!

work
As a part of UW Career Discovery week, FIUTS is planning Take the World to Work Day. This one-day event will match international students individually or in small groups to visit professionals in their work places for a day, offering a rare glimpse inside the professional life of their chosen career.

Take the World to Work Day is scheduled for Thursday, February 7, 2008. FIUTS is looking for professionals or local businesses willing to host a student or group of students for at a half or whole day.

If you are not available to host for Take the World to Work day, consider joining FIUTS on Wednesday, February 6, for a special career networking Wednesday Lunch.

Holiday Tea 07
FIUTS staff and students enjoyed tea and homemade cookies at the home of UW President, Dr. Mark Emmert and his wife DeLaine. The tea is an annual event hosted by the faculty auxiliary as a fundraiser for FIUTS programs. Thanks to Dr. and Mrs. Emmert and the Faculty Auxiliary for this wonderful holiday tradition!

At the intersection of the University of Washington and the community, FIUTS inspires lifelong engagement through activities that build global understanding.
