Globie is the official mascot of the 60th anniversary
countdown and he wants to travel the world with you!
Are you planning on visiting a local landmark in your
country, or travelling to a new place? Do you have any
plans to meet up with other FIUTS students or
alumni? Take your
picture with Globie and send it to FIUTS -
we'll be tracking Globie's progress around the world
on the anniversary web page.
|
||||
Globie made his first overseas appearance at a
FIUTS alumni gathering in Vienna last weekend!
Carolyn Ho, Astrid Gall, and other FIUTS
Alumni got
together for an evening of beer and sausages,
Austrian style!

Do you have an extra seat at your
Thanksgiving table
this year? Many UW international students
would love
the opportunity to experience this American
tradition by
dining at a local host's home. Hosting a
student for
Thanksgiving dinner is a wonderful
contribution to
cultural understanding, as well as a great
introduction
to the FIUTS hosting community.
Please call FIUTS at (206) 543-0735 or email Homestay &
Community Relations Coordinator Alicia van
der Veen
if you would like to participate. All
matches will be
made by Monday, November 19th in order to
provide
enough time for families to plan accordingly.
After
being matched, hosts and students will
correspond
about specific arrangements.

FIUTS enjoyed a visit this month from past FIUTS
students and staff member Ian Morgan and Joanna
Bush. Ian was a FIUTS facilitator and worked
with
FIUTS from Sept. 1998 to Sept 2000 as an
orientation
assistant and homestay coordinator, and
Joanna was
an exchange student at
the UW from Sept 1999 through April 2000. (Yet
another FIUTS romance!)
They have been living in the D.C. area, but
are moving
to Australia. They stopped by FIUTS on their
way to
spend time travelling in Korea by bicycle!
Thanks for
the visit, Ian and Joanna!

FIUTS Homestay & Community Relations
Coordinator Alicia van der Veen visited a
couple of alumni in Mexico City in late October.
Pilar Morales was at the UW last year as a
Population Leadership Program Fellow at the
Evans School of Public Affairs. She currently
works for
MexFam, a public health service provider in
Mexico. Pilar took Alicia to the nearby
Teotihuacan pyramids - thank you Pilar!
|
||
Alicia also met up with Samuel Kobelkowsky,
who completed his Masters Degree in
Electrical Engineering at the UW in 2000.
Samuel was very active in FIUTS during his
time in Seattle, volunteering as a
facilitator and driving for many FIUTS trips.
Samuel
currently works in new technologies for
TelCel, and showed Alicia around the city.
Muchas gracias Samuel!
