CPAT's Charity Curling Tournament

Curlorama 2007!!
It has become a tradition around CPAT, every
February we hit the ice (Some of us fairly hard..)
and throw some stones for two great causes. We
have been proud to host "Curlorama" for the past
three years and raise money for the Lustgarten
Foundation for Pancreatic Cancer, and The United
Mitochondrial Disease Foundation. The event has
turned out to be a greater success than any of could
have ever dreamed! Thanks to all of our great
sponsors and participants we have raised well over
$20,000 the past three years.
This years' event will again be held in February,
this time on a Saturday afternoon and into the later
evening. We are looking for anyone who would like
to volunteer their time to help with the event itself
and/or fundraising. If anyone has items they would
like to donate to the silent auction, or could help by
providing some food or beverages for the event,
please contact Jared Goldstein @
j_goldstein@comcast.net, or Stephanie Coleman @
laureldirector@comcast.net.
The silent auction was a huge success last year,
with items ranging from an autographed Cal Ripken
jersey, a Washington Capitols autographed stick, and
hockey tickets, to Retail gift cards, restaurant gift
certificates, books, and much more! Your
contributions are welcomed and very much
appreciated!
We hope to have a page on our website dedicated to
the event this year, including online registration.
Please stay tuned to see when that is up and
running!

"Frozen Shoulder"
|
|
What is it, and what to do about it??
No one really understands why some people develop
a frozen shoulder. For some reason, the shoulder
joint becomes stiff and scarred. It can be related to
trauma, endocrine disorders, surgery, or sometimes
there seems to be no rationale at all for it's
development. There are also times where it can
start as just a minor ache in the shoulder from a
tendonitis or bursitis, and then progress into frozen
shoulder. In this case, it is essential to receive early
treatment before it progresses to frozen
shoulder. The shoulder joint is a ball and socket
joint. The ball is the top of the arm bone (the
humeral head), and the socket is part of the shoulder
blade (the glenoid). Surrounding this ball-and-socket
joint is a capsule of tissue the envelops the joint.
Normally, the shoulder joint allows more motion than
any other joint in the body. When a patient develops
a frozen shoulder, the capsule surrounding the joint
contracts. The patient forms bands of scar tissue
called adhesions. The contraction of the capsule and
the formation of the adhesions cause the frozen
shoulder to become stiff and cause movement to
become painful. Treatment normally consists of
physical therapy sessions for manual mobilization of
the shoulder joint and surrounding joints and tissue.
This is accompanied by various Range of Motion
(ROM) exercises that are performed both in the clinic
and at home. ROM is normally the sole focus of early
rehabilitation. For more information on frozen
shoulder and it's treatment, please click on the
article, or call our office to schedule an appointment
with one of our therapists.
