Slater Commits $350K in Funding to Dynadec
 
Slater has provided Providence-based optimization technology developer Dynadec with $350,000 in seed funding to further the commercialization of its patented Comet software platform.  Spun out of research in the Brown Optimization Laboratory, the start-up's solution is based on founder and industry pioneer Pascal Van Hentenryck's newest algorithmic invention in the field.
 
Successful Slater Fellows Program Returns for 2009-10 Academic Year
 
Slater has announced the second year of its Fellows program, a joint initiative with the National Science Foundation's Rhode Island Experimental Program to Stimulate Competitive Research (R.I. EPSCoR) designed to encourage entrepreneurship in the life sciences and biotechnology industries in Rhode Island.  The program funds up to six internships at the Slater Technology Fund and aims to engage exceptional students at the state's universities in the venture development experience.
 
Cardiorobotics Completes $11.6 Million Series A
 
Middletown-based Cardiorobotics has raised an $11.6M Series A funding round to further develop its advanced robotic technologies for minimally invasive surgical procedures.  Slater contributed $250,000 to the current round, which brings its total investment in the company to $750,000.
 
Slater Invests in Biotech Start-up Sentient Bioscience
 
Slater has provided a first round of funding to Sentient Bioscience, a Providence-based biotech start-up developing proprietary technology for embolization therapy and site-specific drug delivery to treat cancer and other serious medical conditions.  Sentient co-founders include prominent clinicians and researchers from Brown University, including interventional radiologist Dr. Timothy Murphy and Edith Mathiowitz, Ph.D., a professor of medical science and engineering.
 
Insight Health Solutions Enters Radiology Market

Insight Health Solutions, an East Providence-based provider of risk and quality management solutions for healthcare organizations, has introduced new RadiologyInsight, the latest product in its quality suite for radiology peer review.  The new tool exceeds the peer review requirements recently introduced by the American College of Radiology, and leverages the company's proven technology and healthcare quality expertise across the imaging department.

EpiVax Enters Collaborative Research Agreement with Roche
 
Providence-based EpiVax has signed a deal with Swiss pharmaceutical giant Roche to evaluate the company's Tregitope technology for improving immune responses to certain drugs.  The agreement calls for the two firms to work together to establish proof of concept, and allows Roche the right to license Tregitope for specific products, as well as the option to use the technology in its protein therapeutic development pipeline.

MoFuse Named to 2009 AlwaysOn Global 250
 
Providence-based MoFuse has been named one of the AlwaysOn Global 250, an award that recognizes emerging technology companies creating new business opportunities in high-growth sectors, including cloud and infrastructure, consumer internet technologies, wireless, digital education, digital media, enabling tools and devices, SaaS and enterprise, and greentech.  The mobile technology company develops software that manages web content across multiple mobile devices and already has over 30,000 publisher customers.
 
Tizra Brings Web-Based Publishing to Association of Research Libraries
 
The Association of Research Libraries is using Tizra's online publishing platform to offer online search and new mobile compatibility for its Research Library Issues flagship publication.

Advanced Image Enhancement Technology Featured by Hologic
 
Image enhancement technology provider Advanced Image Enhancement (AIE) introduced its innovative technology for digital mammography in breast cancer screening and diagnosis at the recent Radiological Society of North America Annual Meeting, the industry's flagship event in the U.S.  The AIE technology, which enables physicians to extract more information from medical images, was demonstrated by Hologic on its mammography workstations during the event.
 
Andera Adds National Business Bank to Customer List 
 
Providence-based Andera is now providing online account-opening services to Wedbush Bank, an entrepreneur, professional, and business bank headquartered in Los Angeles.  Andera partnered with online banking service provider Digital Insight to provide the solution.
 
Slater 2009 Fiscal Year Wrap Up
Slater recently announced its investment summary for FY 2009, which included funding commitments to eight RI-based technology ventures.  Four of the eight companies represented new investments for Slater, while the second half received follow-on funding.
