Slater Reinvests in Public Display
 
Slater has provided a second round of funding to Providence-based Public Display, a web application firm developing information extraction software for consumers, web publishers and advertisers.  Slater has committed $250,000 in additional seed funding to Public Display, bringing its total investment in the company to $500,000.
 
Slater Funds New Gene-Sequencing Startup
 
Slater has invested in $250,000 in Providence-based Genome Corp., a gene sequencing startup that plans to use its proprietary sequencing technology to produce the "$1000 genome," or the reduction of the cost of mapping the human genome from its current $10 million price tag to under $1000.
 
Concordia Receives Rhode Island Tech Collective Award
 
The R.I. Tech Collective recently recognized Concordia Fibers for its Excellence in Workforce Development at the second annual Rhode Island Innovation Awards and Tech Laureates Night.  Concordia was honored for its commitment to train and retain its dedicated workforce as part of the company's transformation to the biomedical manufacturing industry.
 
Duke University Chooses Tizra to Expand eBook Offerings
 
Duke University Press has signed an agreement with Tizra to use the company's Agile PDF, a hosted publication sales and delivery service, to repackage, deliver and sell its book-based content in electronic form.  Duke University Press is among the 20 largest university presses in America, and Tizra's technology will allow the institution to create and manage a fully searchable, Duke-branded online storefront to sell all published works to individuals and other institutions.
 
Andera Partners with NCR eCommerce
 
Andera has entered into an agreement with the eCommerce unit of NCR Corporation to become the preferred provider of account opening solutions to NCR's broad base of Internet banking customers.  The global leader in financial self-service solutions, NCR recently announced the new relationship at its annual eCommerce client conference in Salem, MA.
 
Traction Software Introduces New TeamPage 
 
Traction Software has released the newest version of its award-winning TeamPage software solution, TeamPage 3.8, to early praise.  TeamPage 3.8 is an enterprise blog and wiki solution with new additions to improve ease of use, scalability, and the facilitation of Enterprise 2.0 collaboration. 
 
Two Slater Companies in the Spotlight at Gene Sequencing Conference 
 
Cambridge Healthtech Institute's high-profile Annual Next Generation Sequencing Conference featured presentations from two Slater-backed companies.  Genome Corp. CEO Kevin Ullmer addressed the pros and cons of the four leading next-generation sequencing technologies and gave an overview of his company's variation on the Sanger method for making the "$1000 genome" a reality.  John Oliver, vice president of NABsys, presented his company's approach using hybridization-assisted nanopore sequencing.
 
Richard Horan Discusses the Promise of Biotech in The Providence Journal
Slater Managing Director Richard Horan offered his thoughts on the promise of bio-research in Rhode Island in the November 7th issue of The Providence Journal.  In his op-ed piece, Horan highlights the importance of supporting the state's small but thriving bio-research sector and the potential for further growth that stands to come from partnerships among the key players.
