He has been recently appointed to the Board of Directors of INTA for the term from January 1, 2012 to December 31, 2014. This comes on top of his serving as the Chair of the INTA ADR Committee in the 2010-2011 term, where he served as the Vice-Chair and Subcommittee Chair in the previous term.

NEW VENEZUELAN SPORTS LAW TO AFFECT COMMERCIAL SPONSORSHIP

On August 23, 2011, a new Venezuelan Sports Law entered into force, which is intended to regulate sports sponsorship, organization & administration, physical activities as a public service and sports management as economic activity for social purposes, since they are citizens' fundamental rights and a State's social duty.   

 

One of the main aspects set forth in the Law is the regulation of public and private commercial sponsorship to sports organizations domiciled in Venezuela.

Introduction - A recent decision was handed down by the Federal Court of Australia in response to the ACCC's (Australian Competition and Consumer Commission) allegation that Google had engaged in conduct that was misleading or deceptive or likely to mislead or deceive in contravention of s 52 of the Trade Practices Act 1974 ("TPA")(now s18 of the Australian Consumer Law), in relation to the publication of paid advertisements (known as 'sponsored links') together with its search engine results.

UK REGULATOR CHANGES ITS APPROACH TO COMPETITOR COMPLAINTS

From 1st December 2011, businesses wishing to submit a complaint to the UK's Advertising Standards Authority about the activities of a competitor will "normally" first have to demonstrate that they have attempted to resolve their differences directly with the advertiser concerned.

 

The ASA will expect the following formal steps to have been taken before considering such a case:

  1. the complainant must have raised its concerns directly with the competitor-advertiser in a letter - sent by registered post - giving details of the claim and how the ad is alleged to have broken Code rules;
