Check with your group or private lesson coach about participating in these fun events! All levels and ages are welcome to participate.
Now is a great time to start taking private lessons (if you haven't already started) to get ready for the competition season!

| Buying Skates
With two consignment sales coming up, now is a great time to purchase (or upgrade) your skates!
What should you look for in a pair of used skates?
1) Condition - boots should be in good condition (no rotting leather or large creases). Scuffs on the boots are usually superficial & can be cleaned.
2) Size - Do not buy skates to grow into. Skates should be no more that 1/2 to 1 size larger than the skater normally wears. Remember - most skate sizes are different from street shoe sizes so it is best if the skater can try them on. When trying them on, wear the socks or tights that the skaters would normally wear when skating.
3) Make sure there is good ankle support. Having your own skates is no good if they can't hold up your ankles!
4) Lace up the skates when trying them on and make sure that the foot does not slide around in the boot. Also check that the heel does not move when the skater bends their knees.
5) A beginner pair of boots will probably come with blades. Ask if the seller knows how many times the blades have been sharpened. If the blades are too old and have been sharpened many times, they will need to be replaced.
Have fun skating with your new skates! Remember to take care of them and they will last for a long time! |
