Greetings!

Fall is here and now is the time to get ready for the upcoming holiday show and competition season! Hockey players are already into the Youth Hockey season with games every weekend.
The Holiday Ice Show practices start on Tuesday, October 7 and you can either sign up online or at the rink (skaters can still sign up!). Skaters who are interested in doing a solo for the Holiday Show or who are interested in competiting next year should start working with a private lesson coach soon. For information on private lessons, please contact me at: 378-7465 x204 or gaby@richmondicezone.com.

SKATING TIP
Hockey StopHockey Stops

Hockey stops are fun for both figure skaters and hockey players. They can be a little tricky, so here are a few tips:
1) Start with at forward two foot glide with knees bent
2) Hold your arms out slightly in front of your body
3) Without moving your shoulders or arms, turn your hips and feet to one side
4) Keep your knees bend as you lean on your edges to stop (to prevent falling backward)
6) When you are in your stop position, the foot in front will be leaning on an inside edge and the foot in the back will be on an outside edge. The outside edge is like the T Stop from the last newsletter.
7) This stop uses the skidding action from both snowplow stops (inside edge) and T Stops (outside edge) so it helps to know the T Stop and Snowplow Stop before attempting the Hockey Stop.
Have fun practicing this skill!
