Greetings!

Summer is quickly passing by! I hope you have had the chance to stop by the Ice Zone and take a few laps - what a great way to exercise in the summer!
Space is still available for August skating classes & your fee can be prorated! Basic Skills lessons and Hockey U are great ways to keep your skills fresh.
Check out our website for information about our new Membership program for our Basic Skills Classes! Save money on a year's worth of lessons!
Now is the time to start thinking about the upcoming season - hockey players can get ready for the leagues and figure skaters can prepare for the competition season. If you have any questions about how to get involved in either hockey or figure skating, call or email me and I will give you all the information!
Stay cool,

SKATING TIP
Skater StoppingT Stops
T Stops are a more advanced stop which uses the outside edge of the blade to bring the skater to a stop. Skaters should be confident doing a snowplow stop and should have tried the hockey stop before trying the T Stop.
A T Stop is done like its name - the skater places their foot in a "T" position (the back foot is turned out - not turned in). A skater should try to become comfortable in this position before trying it moving.
After becoming comfortable standing still, a skater should try this stop slowly at first, turning the stopping foot out and applying gentle pressure to the outside edge, creating a skid. (Be careful to not step on the back of your blade!) If a skater is using the inside edge of the stopping foot, that is an incorrect position.
Bending the knees can help a skater achieve the right foot position. The arms also need attention - they will need to be held out straight to help with balance.
This skills takes practice, especially to master it with both feet. Keep it up! The result will help you learn to use your edges in new ways!
