Hank's Thoughts

It's a shame that the government in Washington
and most of the national press concentrate on big businesses and virtually
ignore small businesses.
Most of the jobs in the USA
and most of the activities in the business world revolve around small business.
Depending upon how you want to define "small" the statistics
stand unblemished that small-to-medium business is the true backbone of America.
I try to concentrate on SMB (small to medium business) in
this newsletter. It's dearest to my heart. I was an employee of a giant corporation for
many years but I've been a small biz entrepreneur for more than fifty years
now. Ups and downs, successes and
disappointments, good decisions and bad decisions, I have a BS degree from a
regular university, but a PhD from the College
of Hard Knocks. It's been a great journey, and it continues.
If you ever want to chat, or share a Starbucks-Meet to
discuss business, let me know. We can
complain and brag together.
p.s. I was also a private pilot for half a century, so I
enjoy talking about flying also!

Think You're Old? Take a look at this 100 year old flying machine!

Here is the oldest airplane that is still flying. It is a Bleriot, based in France. It was built in 1809, just a few years after the Wright Brothers proved that airplanes can fly. Other Bleriots are also flying, including flights over the English channel.

Science has now proven that people who are happier live longer than people
who are not.
Happy people also have fewer illnesses and make more money. There is no better time than right now to be
happy. Happiness is a journey, not a
destination. So work like you don't need
money. Love like you've never been hurt,
and dance like no one's watching.

How to Make Money in the Depression
Where oh
where can you make money these days?
Don't look at the stock market. The Dow's all over the map. Maybe up one day -
but is that real or the dreaded "sucker rally"?
Don't look to the government. They have other worries. You want to grow your sales revenue, but increasing your sales staff is probably out of the question. So what can you do?
BusinessWeek suggests you look at an old
standby: the e-mail newsletter.
It's not fancy or high-tech. But it can bring in serious revenues - even today,
maybe even especially today. It's direct mail promotion, but there is no
postage or printing cost involved - just a professional way to reach your
customers, prospects, and suspects with the rifle-shot messages you want them to
see.
E-mail
newsletters can even help attract investors looking for safer places than the
stock market to stow their money.
ETR, an online magazine, shot up from a little "amateur start-up" to
a $25 million company in the past few years, by using E-mail newsletters exclusively as its
way of advertising and finding new customers.
You can
benefit from e-mail newsletters, regardless of what your business offers to your
public. Remember Cogent Copy is the King
and the mailing list is the essential ingredient. Repetition, repetition, and repetition are
three important keywords.

newsletters can help you make more money

Now is the Time to Market and Promote Wisely
"The man who
stops advertising to save money is like the man who stops the clock to save
time." .... attributed to Thomas Jefferson
The first thing many big corporations cut in tough times is
marketing. That's really stupid. Marketing,
when done right, makes money, brings in customers, and generates sales.
During a recession, your biggest problem is making sales and
maintaining revenues - exactly what marketing is designed to accomplish.
It might surprise you to know that many marketing channels cost
next to nothing to explore. If you know what they are, and the best ways to use
them, you can attract paying customers no matter what the economy is doing.
One such affordable marketing channel is email newsletters. They have been proved to generate customer
loyalty and new sales.
The "social media" offer other channels to become known. The trouble is they are a one-way street - you
broadcast but don't know who is reading it.
With a proper email marketing program such as Constant Contact, you know
immediately who opens your email and you can follow up with them anyway you
choose.
Why not go for a free trial of Constant Contact and see for
yourself exactly what we are talking about.
We partner with you so you can stop spinning your wheels and get
the word out about what you do."

Betcha' Didn't Know...
Only two people signed the Declaration of Independence on July 4th, John
Hancock and Charles Thomson. Most of the rest signed on August 2, but the last
signature wasn't added until five years later.

On The Lighter Side....
