LA JOLLA, CA, AUGUST 6, 2009: The Children's School (TCS) recently hosted their second annual Great Scientists Golf Classic and raised more than $10,000 in support of science education at the school. The event, which took place on Monday, August 3, 2009 at The Crossings at Carlsbad, included a putting contest, a shotgun start scramble golf tournament, and a Texas hold 'em poker tournament.
The event brought
together a diverse range of forward-thinking local companies committed
to the development of tomorrow's scientific leaders. "We are proud to host an event that inspires a new generation of scientists and science enthusiasts," said Stephen Lee, event co-chair and TCS parent. "The proceeds from the Great Scientists Golf Classic will support science education at The Children's School, where young minds are discovering the wonder and the power of scientific exploration."
The goal of science education at TCS is to provide the essential experiences for scientific inquiry, exploration and application so that all students have the opportunity to become scientifically literate. In the early childhood program, an interactive outdoor learning space offers multi-sensory tables and gardens where the youngest scientists learn about their world. For elementary students, the TCS Science Clubhouse provides the lab space for students to conduct their own experiments and share their discoveries. Students in the middle years program study earth, life and physical science with the topics inetgrated across subject areas. Students also participate in field studies at places such as the Torrey Pines State Reserve and the Ruben H. Fleet Center.
