Summer Newsletter 2012

A Message From Your
ACHE of Massachusetts President

Dear ACHE of Massachusetts Members,

On November 13, 2012 we will host our Annual Fall Conference and Annual Meeting at the Sheraton Needham. The November elections will have just concluded and we look forward to discussions from national experts on the impact on the healthcare delivery system as well as lessons and strategies for success from systems operating under alternative payment mechanisms.

Thomas C. Dolan, PhD, FACHE, CAE, president and chief executive officer of the American College of Healthcare Executives (ACHE), has announced his intention to retire, effective May 10, 2013, at which time he will become president emeritus. ACHE of Massachusetts congratulates Tom on his upcoming retirement and wishes him every success in the future.

To reduce the barriers to ACHE educational programming for ACHE members experiencing economic hardship, ACHE has established the Tuition Waiver Assistance Program. ACHE makes available a limited number of tuition waivers to ACHE Members and Fellows whose organizations lack the resources to fund their tuition for education programs. Members and Fellows in career transition are also encouraged to apply. Tuition waivers are based on financial need and are available for the following ACHE education programs:

  • Congress on Healthcare Leadership
  • Cluster Seminars
  • Self-Study Programs
  • Online Education Programs
  • Online Tutorial (Board of Governors Exam preparation)
  • ACHE Board of Governors Exam Review Course

For more information about the program, please contact Teri Somrak, associate director, Division of Professional Development, at (312) 424-9354 or [email protected].

This summer the Early Careerist Network (ECN) of ACHE of Massachusetts hosted several events focused around professional development, community service, and networking. I am pleased to provide the following updates on our recent activities:

Professional Development
Summer Quarterly Professional Development Series-21 Early Careerists gathered at Suffolk University on June 26th for ECN's Quarterly Professional Development Series. Naomi Deutscher, results-oriented executive coach, shared her insights on presentation skills, leadership presence and effective concise communication.

Networking

2nd Annual Night at the Red Sox-100 ACHE of MAred sox 2012 members and guests enjoyed a rainy night of baseball as the Red Sox took on the Detroit Tigers on July 31st. Despite the rain, participants enjoyed the views from Fenway Park's Budweiser Right Field Roof Deck while networking with fellow peers.

Summer Splash Event-ACHE of MA ECN and members of the Boston Young Healthcare Professionals group teamed up on August 16th for a night of networking and to learn more about membership opportunities within the two organizations. Roughly 140 young healthcare professionals from varying healthcare-related industries met on the roof deck of Splash Ultra Lounge in downtown Boston.

The ECN Leadership Team is busy planning Fall and Winter 2012 events. Make sure to check out the ACHE of MA website for updates on these upcoming events.
