Happy Almost-Solstice,
Writer Folks!

Writers at Work
Registration is now open for Winter Session classes. We're offering another plethora of options for your writing pleasure, including three cool new once-a-month "continuation" classes:
  • One specifically for novelists, taught by Karen Bjorneby in San Francisco
  • One for personal essayists/memoirists, taught by Alison Luterman in Berkeley
  • And one for general fiction writers, also in Berkeley, taught by Elaine Beale.
There are some new one-day workshops, too:
  • "Writing Tight: Find Your Inner Editor," taught by Cheryl Ossola
  • "Writing Personality Profiles," taught by Cary Pepper
  • "Screenwriting Seminar" for beginners, taught by Terrel Seltzer, which emphasizes the importance of knowing your story ending before you begin.
The above six classes are only the tip of the iceberg, though. For a complete list of Winter Session classes, go to "Classes-at-a-Glance."

**Classes are available until they fill up (maximum enrollment: 13) or until the first day of class, whichever comes first.

ONE MORE THING: We need a couple of people to help put up flyers on bulletin boards and/or to leave stacks of cards all over SF and Berkeley/Oakland...in exchange for classes. Must have a car, must like to walk, must want to do it indefinitely (ie. you envision taking several classes over a long period of time). Hours vary depending on whether it's before or during a session, but it averages out to around 10 hours a month. We will tell you where to go. Call Jane at 415.609.2468 for more details.

"Storytelling is an ancient and honorable act. An essential role to play in the community or tribe. It's one that I embrace wholeheartedly and have been fortunate enough to be rewarded for."

"Through writing, through that process, my students realize that they become more intelligent  and more honest and more imaginative than they can be in any other part of their lives."

- Russell Banks
