Some Father's Day Thoughts...

Dear Fathers,

I do hope that you are enjoying the kind of wonderful spring weather that we are enjoying here in California. I do know that many of you are enduring flooding rains in the mid-West, and our heart goes out to you. We wish you the best.

I am sitting on my deck overlooking Bear Valley thinking about Father's Day, and about being a father. God has blessed me with three wonderful children, two in their twenties and one age seven, and through the years I have learned many lessons about fatherhood that somehow I'd like to put into writing and pass on to you.

Just last week I was at a gathering of men at our church where the question was asked, "How many of you men never have heard your father say either 'I love you' or 'I am proud of you?' I was surprised at the number of men - full grown men - who raised their hands. Too many.

Through the years as a counselor I have seen the impact on both men and women who have spent years of their lives in just trying to be "good enough" to please their fathers, or to be "successful enough" to earn their father's praise. For these unfortunate adults the focus of their lives has been distracted by seeking one man's approval, by seeking their father's blessing

Mercury Poisoning, Heavy Metal or Chemical Toxicity, and Brain Development

Protect Your Child's Brain from Mercury and Other Heavy Metals and Environmental Chemicals

The dangers of lead poisoning and mercury toxicity have been known for centuries. And research over the past thirty years has shown that low-level exposures to heavy metals from paint, exhaust, and other environmental sources has toxic effects. These metals are neurotoxins and adversely impact brain development and performance.

Mercury exposure has been linked to lower intelligence scores and neurobehavioral problems in children of mothers exposed to contaminated seafood. We are convinced that dental amalgam fillings, which are over 40% mercury, plus toxic nickel, copper, and cadmium, also can cause neurological and immune system dysfunctions.

Two informative but shocking videos on the internet illustrate the points. The first video from the International Academy of Oral Medicine and Toxicity shows that
amalgam fillings expose their "owners" to mercury vapor. The second video from the University of Calgary, Ontario, Canada, shows mercury ions destroying nerve cells. These are "must see" videos.

One in six children in the USA has a developmental disability or neuro-developmental disorder, such as ADHD, autism or Asperger's, PDD, etc. It is possible, in fact likely, that exposure to heavy metals and chemical toxins both in utero and in early childhood cause damage to the developing brain, resulting in various neurological disorders.

Essential Fatty Acids and ADHD

The studies on Essential Fatty Acid levels in Attention Deficit Disorder subjects vs. non- ADD ADHD subjects are interesting.

The ADD ADHD groups had significantly lower concentrations of key essential fatty acids than did the control groups, and about 40% of the ADD ADHD group showed these signs of EFA deficiency:

* increased thirst,
* frequent urination,
* dry skin,
* dry or brittle hair.

Low levels of Omega 6 EFAs contributed to higher incidents of illness (colds, flu, etc.), and deficits in Omega 3 EFAs contributed to problems with learning, behavior, sleep, and temper.
